Re: Grand & Finn Apartments - (2124 Grand Avenue)
Yep. To be fair, some of the Tommies aren't themselves to blame. They were just raised poorly and spoiled by Mr. and Mrs. Gundrick.

If that's the excuse we need to get the rail built, I'm okay with that.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I guess it's because I don't drive much, but I just don't see what's so terrible about a two block detour. Surely people living far enough away that they can't bus quickly have already decided, consciously or otherwise, that they don't care about those couple extra minutes stuck in traffic. It's aki...

Re: Grand & Finn Apartments - (2124 Grand Avenue)
Ugly building. But just to be clear, especially since a lot of people here don't get to St. Paul very often - the density debate is a small fraction of the issue. In fact, it's not much more than a red herring. Same with height and size. The neighbors are opposed to student housing. They just tend t...

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)
The problem with Dylan isn't what he loves or hates. It's that anyone thinks that it's relevant. Every time an article about Dinkytown gets published, he has to be mentioned at least once. Why are we basing major urban planning decisions on one old man?!

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
As far as I can tell they were shopping around for a location in Prospect Park and spilled those beans before a deal was finalized.
I'm glad The Podium decided to move after all. I just wish they hadn't contributed to this mess in the first place with that letter of theirs.

Re: Saint Paul - General Topic(s)
That's great news. Saint Paul needs more auto part stores. Oh, and car lots. [/sarcasm] Where on Rice? It'll be interesting to see what effects the new restrictions on University have on adjacent streets.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWz7IC5s3dQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_QZbjBa7qc I've included two links to what I consider amazing, world-class, downtown-defining development proposals: The first is the breathtaking Etihad Towers, located in Abu Dhabi; The other is the Hudson Yards project...

Re: Snelling BRT/enhanced bus
As of last week, the proposed cost for the line is around $27 million and they're $10 million short on the funding. Bike storage in some form will be located at all stations, the 84 will not change in any way, and there will be no net loss of on-street parking. Neighborhood advisers were apparently ...

Re: Selby and Snelling
On Tuesday the developer at Snelling and Selby met with the district council and neighbors to give us the latest. 200 market rate apartments and one single ground floor retail tenant in a building on the NE corner of the Snelby intersection. He didn't mention a grocery store this time, but it seems ...

I really like the grass slopes in the outfield. It really helps preserve the casual minor league feel, and looks like it could be a really fun spot to watch a game from.

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
No, it was Snelbian's post that seemed to imply that Dinkytown might be better off without the Varsity mucking things up. I don't know if that's what he meant or not, but it's such an absurd idea, frankly, that it's not even worth talking about beyond this post. My point before was just that you pa...

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
I think it's a catch-22 on the current businesses claiming they need the existing parking given the fact that there's not enough population to support their business without it. The Opus and UTEC site developments drastically change that, and building another 1-2 stories up above would only help th...

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
But where would they park? A block away from their destination? Two? Won't somebody think of the children, etc. etc. The current uproar isn't only about Book House and The Podium. There are plenty of complaints that parking will be reduced (which it won't, but whatever) and somehow nobody will be ab...

Re: Snelling and University
The building is attached to a large drive-thru awning which I would think will be removed since drug stores and offices don't tend to need four or five lanes. Which means more empty surface lot on the single busiest corner in the city and at a major light rail stop. While the building may be nice (I...

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
If we didn't have parking minimums we could do that same kind of small scale development. Just put a parking overlay district on those 4 blocks and require 0 parking and let developers go nuts. You'll see this shitty 1 story buildings replace with 2 or 3 story buildings in the same footprint in a f...
