Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Eesh. Yeah. My architect uncle also always used to talk about the roofs of Frank Lloyd Wright's homes -- apparently they leaked a lot (though perhaps that was due a bit to the technology of the time rather than shape...)

Re: Vikings Stadium
Yeah, as long as the stadium is going to happen, I want it to be a good use of space. I like the plaza spaces and the opportunities for multiple uses. The entranceway also reminds me of a coliseum or something, which could really be great (kind of like the pillars around the TCF Stadium).

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
Yeah, elevated stations tend to suck at that. I also see that they have a problem with bikes that could easily be solved by adding a couple of racks... The Interchange's roof wouldn't be quite that big. I do wonder a bit about how snow/ice would come off in the winter. I think the Interchange render...

Is the map highlighting the wrong building? Is this the project that was known as "515 Huron Apartments" at one time?

Re: Central Corridor LRT
Before the thought disappears from my head, I'll resurrect some year 2010 ridership numbers I'd posted back on Minnescraper, derived from the existing conditions report for the Central Corridor Transit Service Study Route 16: 16,880 daily, 5.0 million annually Route 50: 6,886 daily, 1.5 million annu...

Re: Central Corridor LRT
bandar: The line does have its own right-of-way (it's just in the middle of the street), and there will be some signal preemption -- just not the 100% preemption that you see along the Hiawatha corridor. If you've ever been on the University of Minnesota shuttle to the Saint Paul campus, I expect th...

Re: Minneapolis Skyway System
Yeah, regardless of whether people like the skyways or not, I hope we can all (or nearly all) agree that they're still going to be around for a long time, and it's in our best interest to make sure they're implemented in a good way. I think the most frustrating aspect of skyways is that they usually...

Re: Mobile Version?
It's there on the desktop version, but hiding in plain sight -- you have to click the orange link icon just to the left of the thread title. If you mouse over it, there should be a popup saying "View first unread post".

Re: Mobile Version?
Would it be possible for the mobile site to get those little orange icons next to new posts in threads? It's just a minor annoyance, but when I click on the "New Post" link, it tends to take me a while to figure out which entries I have and haven't read yet.

Re: Central Corridor LRT
Was traffic flowing on both sides of the bridge again? From the weekly CCLRT newsletter, it looks like the bridge should be in its new normal road configuration by tomorrow. The southeast connecting ramp from Cedar Ave to eastbound CR-122 should also be open. Apparently access from NB I-35W to Washi...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
Just since it's opening next week, I figured I'd mention London's new " Emirates Air Line " cable car, built as part of their run-up to the 2012 Summer Olympics. The most expensive cable car system ever built, according to Wikipedia (£60 million, or about US$94 million). Of course, I would...

Re: UTEC Student Housing
Hmm. I don't see any details yet on the Minneapolis website -- I thought I'd heard that there would be an attempt to "wrap" the building, since it has some pretty big setbacks, though I'm not sure about how that would work for floor widths. Parts of the old building would still probably ha...

Re: Bottineau LRT
Some maps of the possible alignments are here, though detail is lacking for the northern A, B, and C segments: http://bottineautransitway.org/library/maps_and_alignments.htm If they use the D1 alignment (which looks very likely at this point), it'd run west on Olson Memorial Boulevard and then turn ...

I believe LRT is "Phase 1". Heavy-rail is "Phase 2". I don't know how the money works out between the two, though.

Southern Rail Corridor (Rochester bypass)
Somewhat related to the proposed "Zip Rail" line to Rochester, but focused on freight, a study just got started to look at a future traffic on the DM&E line through the city and whether a bypass route would be needed. (I'd generally say no -- it's probably better to just grade-separate...

Re: Culver's (1491 University Avenue)
Yeah, it's a bit frustrating. St Paul doesn't seem to require site plans to be published in the same way Minneapolis does now, so I've certainly been flying blind with this project. I don't think they're going to make the space appreciably worse than what it was though -- it had been a 1-story build...

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
Yes. The Wedge Co-op has a similar, bad, layout. Their website says the building went up in 1992 and was expanded in 1997 and 2001. Yet another artifact of the great Dark Age of City Planning.

Walnut Street/James J. Hill Stairway
The story of the stairway between Summit Ave and United Hospital drags on.
