Re: Downtown Office Market
I'm so glad we didn't end up getting that. It looks bulky and kind of jarring.

I agree. I said long ago, keep the movie theater, keep the bowling alley. Renovate the exterior and list the spaces for lease and let it fill up organicly.

Re: 510 Marquette Avenue
Hopefully they do something about the exterior. It drives me crazy that the top doesn't match the bottom. Also, it is kind of a fortress from the street.

Re: 400 Marquette Avenue
Too bad this suddenly dense block sits next to a completely empty block. Hopefully something grand is envisioned for that place, as it is one of the last parcels right on the Mall.

Re: Downtown Retail News
It also states in the article that Brookfield still owns the actual Neiman Marcus store building and didn't sell it with the rest of Gaviidae II. I know that a lot of dept. stores like to own their building. Do you think Brookfield held on to this part of Gaviidae because they are trying to sell tha...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I agree. I don't see this as a location for anything that will rival the 3 biggest. However a handfull of buildings would really be some nice infill and bulk up the skyline to the East. I believe the WF offices that will be located here are back office and WF Trust employees who are currently in the...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
Not true. The 2nd location at Ridgedale was originally Donaldsons. Donaldsons was bought out and became Carson Pirie Scott.. When they left, Dayton's took over the space and turned it into their Men's and Home store. It was never a Mervyns.

Re: 700 Central Ave. NE (former Archive condos)
Just curious if anyone has heard anything new on this project. Seems like this one just cannot get moving, even after repeated attempts at re-development.

Re: Totino's Apartments
There was talk of it the last time this property was trying to be developed (before the real estate bust). The building is not considered historic and is in terrible shape. However, there were some people who thought that it should be considered historic and saved, since Totinos started here. There ...

Re: Totino's Apartments
That is my take on it as well.
Does anyone know if this includes the boarded up building next to Totino's? Or is this just the Totino's building and the parking lot that takes up the rest of the block?

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
Good to see the Totino's site at least mentioned somewhere. This would fill an ugly hole in a relatively vibrant area. If only we would hear of or see some progress with 700 Central. Those 2 could really change this whole area.

Re: Block E
How about simply re-vamping the exteriror, add windows, add a few street level entrances, list it for lease and build out the interior to the new tenants' needs? There you go. Organic city growth. Spruce up the exterior and lease out the space to whatever businesses want to locate there...offices, r...

Re: City Center
Agreed. The tower is one of my least favorites, but I would hate this whole complex a lot less if the 3 story retail portion didn't look like something straight out of East Berlin from the outside. I think the tower is a good filler building and a tall one at that. And thank God we only have one of ...

Yes, hopefully they avoid going to cheesy so we don't end up with something like used to be done to the Foshay Tower at Christmas time.

Agreed....I think one of the problems with this most recent version of block e is that they tried making it a focal point rather than just making it into something that works and compliments the vibrancy of Hennepin.

Re: Block E
Sounds pretty boring if it ends up being a law firm. I was hoping like they originally said that they wanted it to be a visible space for a Media company. Perhaps an Ad Agency or maybe the Star Tribune or one of the TV stations. With a re-skinning of the exterior, I could see an Ad Agency also heavi...

Re: 700 Central Ave. NE (former Archive condos)
If you walk down 3rd Ave. NE, it is all housing built in and around the 80s. Go one street north to Spring Street and it is your typical old early 1900s Northeast housing stock.....halfway between the 2 is where they began ripping down the existing houses.
