Re: Downtown East / Vikings Stadium LRT Station
Here's a crazy thought: What if we just accepted gridlock? I have a feeling that, in doing so, people would just opt to go another way. Whether that be a walk through a future park, or around north and back over, etc. I mean, it's 10 days a year. It seems excessive to build this at about $20k a game...

Re: Minnesota Multi Purpose Stadium
Anyone know where this came from? Like, who's idea was it? It's not in any planning document. Sort of jumped from out of the blue. Thoughts on the bridge?

Re: New Senate office building (St. Paul Capitol Hill)
In a bit of good news, I've spoken to a few decision-makers on this project. The Board has read the article, and private conversation on the topic has been encouraging, and I may present in front of them during their February meeting. Anyway, myopic.

Re: 7 Corners Hardware
It's a real bummer to see this go under.
A lot of local businesses use that place. However, the interior setup and business model needs a lot of work. It was clear they hadn't invested in the business in a long time.

It'd be easier to do if we weren't right so often, and then just thoroughly ignored.Streets.mn would benefit if they could turn down the righteous indignation dial just a little bit.

Re: New Senate office building (St. Paul Capitol Hill)
I just wrote a piece on Streets.MN about this Building Proposal: https://streets.mn/2014/01/13/demand-better-urbanism-today-stop-the-new-senate-office-building/ I mentioned this before, and I wanted to say it again. I don't mean to have this be some type of self-promotion, but wanted to share the co...

Re: Grand & Finn Apartments - (2124 Grand Avenue)
Yes, it should have been built. Yes, it's an ugly building. My thoughts are that the neighbors should have fought for quality, not lack of density. Architectually, I'm cool with allowing a large variety of options. However, a cheap building is a cheap building, and this is a cheap building. I can't ...

Re: New Senate office building (St. Paul Capitol Hill)
Good catch, Fishmanpet. One of the great tragedies of human existence is the inability of the vast majority of bureaucrats to understand irony. A regulation created by the department of administration specifically exempts the department of administration. Makes you want to join the tea party or som...

Re: Nicollet Mall
It’s silly to pit the reopening of Nicollet against the revamping of Nicollet Mall. They both need to happen, and one likely qualifies for state bonding because it has region-wide significance. In a world of limited resources, I think we need to target projects that will give us the highest return ...

Reconsidering the Nicollet Mall Redesign ... http://www.streets.mn/2013/04/16/reconsidering-the-nicollet-mall-redesign/ There is a $20 million sum of state money that may be dedicated to redesign Nicollet Mall. While $20 million could bring some impressive changes to the pedestrian mall, these funds...

Re: Elk Run Biobusiness Park (Pine Island)
Wow, this one interchange is over $11,000 per resident of Pine Island. It's a great example of how we view road construction as the best source of economic development. In my mind, a better, more productive idea would have been to give some of the money (possibly in grant / low-interest loan form) ...

Re: Elk Run Biobusiness Park (Pine Island)
This is a proposed development in Pine Island, Minnesota, a town of around 3,000 people. Pine Island is a nice small town, but one with some overly ambitious plans. It’s looking to bring a 2,325 acre development to the edge of town that includes a 200 acre “bio-business park” (thanks to “aggressive ...

Re: UTEC Student Housing - (1313 Fifth Street Southeast)
I personally can't think of any new developments that do a good job of incorporating "Ma and Pop" type of establishments and businesses. But I too would like to see that done well. New space is expensive to develop. Developers need to cover costs, so they do what is rational - they find t...

Re: Vikings Stadium
http://www.startribune.com/local/yourvoices/180762771.html Who would want to live by a football stadium? It’s virtually empty or seriously under-utilized 355 days a year and chaotic for the other 10 days a year. That sounds miserable. A recent Star Tribune commentary asked the question, “Vikings st...
