Re: Bicycle Infrastructure.
From that brief explanation, it sounds like this will be a good compromise. I think that two lanes should be adequate, assuming that they are sized appropriately to deal with winter conditions. Hopefully, there will be some accommodation for turn lanes.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
The SPUD will be under served Amtrak wise for a building its size. But it will have buses and light rail serving all day long as well. And having Amtrak in Midway doesn't really do much for the area. Whereas having it downtown will bring more activity and energy to a stuggling commercial area. Like...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I'm confused because St. Paul is rebuilding a station at their historic depot and that one actually looks like a "real" central station, whereas this one looks like a glorified station stop. Why do the cities need two, and why didn't we just come together as a region and build ONE magnifi...

Re: Northeasterly Running Transit Corridor
Interesting. It would be interesting to know if the county still has any R.O.W. under its control along this corridor.

Northeasterly Running Transit Corridor
From the agenda of the Hennepin County RRA: In 1991, the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority (HCRRA) purchased a 5.2 acre site located at University Avenue NE and 37th Avenue NE in Minneapolis as a future station site for a northeasterly running transit corridor. The City of Minneapolis has ...

Are you sure that this section won't just be ties set in rock? The guideway area next to the bus transitway has been graded, but no rebar or concrete yet (except for foundations for catenary poles).

Typically, you'd like to have full coverage over your site with cranes. The big tower crane covers most of the site, but because of the radius of the boom doesn't fully cover the square site, it looks like they've supplemented it with the two smaller cranes at the opposite corners.

The new service will likely be to Chicago, not MSP, which will plug you into somebody else's route schedule, not locked into Delta. I could see this being a competitive option for people in the northern suburbs. Free parking too.

I wish there were a group spending some time looking at these things with some impartiality. Imagine the MBC recommending an improved bike lane, but they have an obvious bias. Will it work? Does it make sense?

Bassett Creek Valley Redevelopment
I’m going to call this Outside Downtown, even if only by a few blocks. If people disagree, feel free to move. An update from the City on efforts to redevelop the Bassett Creek Valley . There are a lot of moving pieces here, including references to the Interchange, high speed rail, really bad soils, ...

Secondly, I saw a photo from the early 60s when the Lindbergh terminal originally opened, and it had the same E and F concourses... I wonder if these have ever been renovated, or if they would be replaced someday with something like a long satellite between the terminal and 4-22. When E and F opene...

Re: Stick vs. Concrete Construction
Related structural question which hopefully isn't stupid: If a large building is being built and foundations are driven down deep into the ground for, say, a ten story building, does that permanently effect the ability of that site to host future large buildings? So if a mid-rise building has steel...

Re: Arterial Transit Corridor Study ("rapid bus")
I went with Move, because I like alliteration. Max might be OK, but to me that suggests a premier service like LRT, rather than just faster bus service.

I thought this was perhaps the most interesting line in the story:
Both transactions included a note that explained the "price was negotiated in 2007 and is considered to be above market value in today's real estate market."

There's still an awful lot of land back there. I'm fine with getting a first phase moving, laying the ground work for bigger and better things in future phases. Is this Heins' "Twinsville"? What happened to their ambition!?

Reading through the comments, I think that it's much more likely to be skewed in the opposite direction -- urban-transportation super wonks recommending LRT and protected bike lanes on every street. I just don't see Joe Public spending a lot of time on the Thrive MSP site.

I've noticed the same thing, and none of the locations suggested have adequate ROW to actually make it work.Is it just me or are multi-way boulevards being suggested for just about every street in Minneapolis lately?

Yes, I don't think it makes sense to not allow any car traffic through this stretch, but I do like the idea of really throttling it down and still using the one way pair to support it.
