Re: Lake & Nicollet
Yes, I don't think it makes sense to not allow any car traffic through this stretch, but I do like the idea of really throttling it down and still using the one way pair to support it.

That'll be great! We can all fly there in our new gyrocopters!

Re: Bennet West and Center Blocks
When you look at the beige cladding on the building up very close, it appears that it might be a "pseudo" Kasota stone material made out of a concrete mix. Perhaps similar to color and material of the first floor of the Lunds downtown. Not ideal, but it definitely looks more solid and hig...

Didn't we decide that the UofM site was closer to the 29th Ave station than Westgate?

That must be an approximation, since 13 isn't divisible into 5280. I always understood downtown blocks to be 400' square (which is approximately 13 blocks per mile).

I was noticing this sad little duplex the last time I was at Rye. It appears to have been unloved for quite some time.

Re: 600 5th Street North
I'm not saying that you're wrong, but I've never noticed the smell, and I've walked around the area quite a bit. I guess I wouldn't be surprised that, under certain weather conditions, it were an issue. But there are lots of places that have unpleasant smells blowing in depending on the direction of...

Re: Elan of Uptown
I'm honestly not convinced that most of Uptown is really appropriate for heights much above 6 stories. Probably not a popular opinion on this board. There are likely a few spots where it would fit, and a couple of those are on the north end of Calhoun. Aside from that, perhaps a couple of spots in t...

Re: U of M Transitway
Perhaps when 5th is grade-separated... When... or if? I don't know of anybody outside of this board that thinks this is likely to happen. My gut tells me that the real limit of the tracks is closer to one train every 90 seconds. I'm not buying this. In a theoretical world, where everything is perfe...

I think so, but I'm not an expert. As I recall, the headways during peak operations are as little as 3 minutes between the two services.

Re: U of M Transitway
It would be difficult to extend it into downtown, because the capacity of that corridor is maxed out between the Blue and Green Lines. Once the Green Line splits off at the Metrodome, however, there should already be spacing built into the schedule for additional service.

Re: Park Vista (2nd St S & 11th Ave S)
I thought that the threat of ice cream cones killed this project? Could it be that all of that noise was just bluster from a developer?

Re: U of M Transitway
It also might take some of the strain off of the regular Green Line trains -- I can just imagine all of the students at the West Bank piling onto an already packed train coming out of downtown during rush hour.

Re: Mill & Main
Well according to that Brownfield link I posted today, the "Pillsbury Lofts" (A-Mill site) received funds to redevelop the A-Mill, so I'd think they'd only do that if they were for certain going through with the project....no? No, not necessarily; these projects keep piling up grants unti...

Re: Northstar
Is this going to be another station where accommodations are not made for a third main? Seems like the investment to bump a track out and have a larger median suitable for a third track in the future could pay off nicely instead of having to redo platforms and possibly pedestrian bridges. Mulad is ...

You could say the same thing about Paris. It would be just as silly as saying it about Minneapolis, or even about the suburbs. You could say the same thing about Minneapolis. There is not one noteworthy culturally, social or architectural achievement in the entire area.

Re: 600 5th Street North
I get what you're saying but in the grand scheme of things, in terms of development and street scape, this building is more important than Fulton's future plans... It's on the corner. I'm sure something productive can be done with the current Fulton site in the future. maybe it continues to house c...

Re: Arterial Transit Corridor Study ("rapid bus")
You're no doubt right about the limitations of fuel cells, but I was just trying to envision an option that wouldn't need the major infrastructure investment and the restrictions that gives you. Maybe something like the above is a good middle ground (not needing continuous overhead catenary lines).

Re: 600 5th Street North
This looks to be another example of a property that is "stealing" somebody else's air rights by building right up to an interior property line with windows. I'm pretty surprised that adjacent property owners haven't caught on to this yet. Good luck to the Fulton people should they every wa...
