Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I would love to see massive rapid transit throughout the cities. The problem, highlighted here, is one must be absolutely, blindly for any mass transit or is put in an anti-transit category. Critiquing a specific issue with a transit project? That criticism simplistically puts the questioner into th...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
You didn't understand the comment, but then wrote three paragraphs in response? Hiawatha is unquestionably a success for riders, tho. The VA built a massive ramp- I'd guess mostly- but at least in part for commuters using their lot as a Park n Ride. Help me understand this comment, please? To the be...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Where did UptownSport say, or imply this????I don't agree with UptownSport that any businesses closed due to construction means we should not have built the line.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
John F Kennedy said (probably quoting somebody else, but I don't know, sorry) that a rising tide lifts all boats. I suspect that a few boats turn over in the rising tide, but in general his statement is right. Bringing more density and wealth to the area will create all sorts of new opportunities f...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
The solution to dealing with change is to make sure it is as beneficial for the general populace as it can be, and hopefully the Green Line will benefit the central cities. That's the concern, here. Is the line overall beneficial , or, does the harm out weigh the good? From the remarks above, most ...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
I'm hoping you're right- Certainly masses taking it to the U can't lose. My worry is what it is doing to everything else. University seems 'dead', and the hopes are the killer, itself, will bring new life to replace what was lost- We'll see. Yeah - go stand around the KSTP tower on University for a ...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
It’s certain that those fields will soon be developed. If we supply transit, the development will be less car-centric, no? Wouldn’t that be a favorable result sprawl-wise? It's a false choice to say we must either subsidize auto-dependent sprawl or transit-oriented sprawl. Instead, we should be ask...

Mdcastle: ... You accusing people of being anti-car reminds me of how some people will call pro-choice folks "pro-abortion". Everyone knows that it isn't true, but it is a defamation tactic. ... Yep! How could anyone accuse people, here, of being anti car? It is so like abortion. Total de...

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail
My thought was to complete sections in increments- As funds became available. I read this was the idea of the "S-Bahn", but I wasn't sure exactly how that would work ... Obviously (again, take these as examples only, NOT suggestions of routes!!!!!!!!!!) if one were to tunnel under, or cut ...

Wicked! Most would settle for heaters like this, though:
Not to do a blow by blow of bus rides, but people are complaining about their waits- Some girl just came out and told me how happy she was to be moving South ...

35W is mostly residential in S Minneapolis too ... Yes? So is area where SWLRT passes thru Isles/Cedar.
"Antiquated" drivers are still continuing to use both the roads, and are going to do so long after UrbanMSP whining has turned to the next discovery that cars are actually using a road.

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Sure, I understand Washington was designed - envisaged originally as a freeway, not (necessarily) for servicing the U. I don't know that the U needs to have claim for everything that runs thru the campus- Whether convenient or not. I think that's a separate issue than the tunnel, though. Issues We'r...

Re: Park and Portland Avenues
I'm just thinking, as I said, a way for people to get from S Mpls to downtown, and it would seem impact would be (relatively) minimal to put trains on those streets. The nature of the streets suggests to me that there's a lot of people coming in and out of the city on them- Perhaps it's too much a l...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
No heat lamps at Coffman shelters is basically criminal at this point. Criminal is the impact described in the last dozen or so posts. This is only one section of the line- What happens further down remains to be seen. No one had any idea this would be confusing to autos, bus operators, pedestrians...

Re: Twin Cities Underground Rail
I understand Mpls is expecting rapid population growth in future. Plus it was constructed by the Soviet Union decades ago. Being taken over by the 'Ruskies' briefly would've been a benefit to our transit (and vodka accessibility)? At the moment, after negotiating frozen bustops and total ridiculous ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_metro_systems - Not to be a jerk, but notice powerhouses like Azerbaijan, Dominican Republic, Greece, Egypt and etc. have undergrounds! There's also talk of S-Bahn, and lesser expensive Medium capacity systems. As Woof pointed out, there's certainly cities on th...

Re: POLL: Fare free zone on campus or make the U-Pass mandat
Discuss. Major concern on this site is where future transit $ come from. Someone needs to be paying for the service, if large swaths are excluded from contributing to transit and using it like an army of ants, it puts burden on everyone else, and reduces ability to make system more efficient. Not s...

Re: Park and Portland Avenues
One-ways reduce environmental impact of line, increasing efficiency (speed) with little risk of head-on accidents. As discussed, cities have done one-ways world over, my guess would be engineering drawings weren't mis-interpreted by road builders en mass. Not sure where you're getting these 'impress...
