Re: Does Minneapolis have too many stoplights?
My impression is that most cars treat right turns like a slip lane and are accelerating out and are not looking for pedestrians. Wondering if a tighter radius would help slow things down more? Edit: My main gripe is with this particular turn: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.8835679,-93.2496358,3a,75...

Re: Does Minneapolis have too many stoplights?
The discussion around removing stop lights/ installing roundabouts appears to be solely framed from the perspective of car drivers. Just because people own and operate a motor vehicle doesn't mean that they need to be moving at all times, especially at the expense of other road users. My question i...

Serious question here: Why is the tunnel so much better than having the trail run under the first bay of the existing bridge? Given unlimited funding, the tunnel might be cool, but is it really that much better than the alternative? And how much park stuff would you sacrifice to make it happen? I p...

I've seen in Europe have convenience stores for riders to get a quick coffee or snack. Wish that would catch on in the U.S. People here still struggle with the idea of how to integrate residential and commercial outside of major business areas. The hammer-meet-nail thinkers at MNDOT would have a Sc...

The owner of the uptown diner is opening a new cafe at 3008 Hennepin ave S(the old North face space) per the star tribunes story about Hennepin's reconstruction Do you think they're moving the Uptown Diner from its current location? It would be really nice if that building and lot were replaced wit...

I know there is more demand for student housing near the University, but I wouldn't have said there would be this much demand. Along with the project proposed for University and previously approved stuff, there are probably over 3,000 beds being proposed or built in the area. While I'm skeptical th...

Allegiant Airlines will operate 3 new routes from MSP: Asheville, NC; Palm Beach, FL; and Punta Gorda, FL. All three of these are already served by Sun Country. The fare wars to these locations are already beginning. https://bringmethenews.com/minnesota-lifestyle/budget-airline-allegiant-will-start-...

In Tokyo the industrial parks are probably served by high speed trains. Here, ownership of a dependable late model vehicle (preferably an SUV for winter driving) is the price of admission to access the economic opportunities out on the exurban fringe. Metro networks, yes (to an extent). HSR, no. HS...

Perhaps Tokyo, Seoul, or Singapore could provide some insights into how manufacturing is done in dense urban areas. I recall reading that Tokyo's zoning model (and maybe Japanese practice as a whole?) was to assign intensity levels to each kind of use, then zone areas for a maximum intensity level ...

On a high level, I think what's considered to be the "cool" area of the city is just changing. The change we're seeing now is Uptown to North Loop. 10 years ago, the North Loop was a fraction of what it is today; Uptown had everything. Retail cycles happen, and Uptown will likely have to c...

This is about as rumor mill-ey as it gets, but I scrolled through the IG account of the owner of CHX chicken fingers and it looks like they might be taking over the former D'amico space on Hennepin? If so, this is dangerously close to me, god save my arteries. Post: https://www.instagram.com/p/CMLZM...

Re: Hennepin Avenue Reconstruction (Douglas to Lake St)
I really dislike Minneapolis' recent love affair with two-way bike paths. It can sometimes be justified, but we just reconstructed Hennepin south of Lake with separate bike lanes, so we're forcing a weird two-way maneuver for southbound bikers at one of the busiest intersections in the city! It wou...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
I know it’s contentious, but I think saying it is an SLP ordinance is inaccurate. I’ve spoken with the city staff and every time they say they’re signs are their interpretation of state laws. Consider me corrected! Hopefully they won't need to produce anymore ridiculous PSA videos about their inter...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
We can rightly criticize the alignment for the SWLRT. That said, from that video one can see that there are quite a few improvements to the Cedar Lake trail with grade separated crossings along the corridor. Beltline and Wooddale were both badly needed. Agreed. This is compounded by SLP's ordinance...

I ran by the Fed's parking lot the other day. It looks like they're installing a security fence around the perimeter of the parking lot.

I was thinking the same thing. Wonder if Aldi is an option there?Which won't happen because they can't have a liquor store- their one allowed permit is used up with the downtown Tjs.
