Re: Downtown Minneapolis Restaurant News
If I remember the twitter thread correctly, he was focusing on quick-serve/counter-serve restaurants. Hen House is still full table service, right? If quick service is the what the list is compiling. I'd say Valentino Cafe, Sal's on fifth and Sushi Train would fit the bill. Is this list updated on ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis LRT Tunnel Discussion
I kinda like the idea of a skyway level stations. Maybe have them over intersections so buildings on the corners would have access.

Re: Minneapolis Street Design
If Minneapolis wants to create safer streets maybe they could start by using smaller fire trucks. Narrowing roads will be hard to do when trucks like these need to use them. https://media.kare11.com/assets/KARE/images/14fc6406-3654-4c1f-b5ec-8c1fb8b0709b/14fc6406-3654-4c1f-b5ec-8c1fb8b0709b_1920x108...

Crowdsourced map of downtown lunch spots that are on the ground floor/not in the skyway https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1uthJw-jrN6N9JC9t-xQ_Vr5130LjSZk&ll=44.977798203277764%2C-93.26987145223887&z=16 I'm surprised Hen House isn't on this list. And a few more I see are missing.

2. The station at Emerson/Fremont is not going to be between those two streets as I hoped. This is because there is not enough space between the two streets (about 365 feet, trains are 300 feet long, plus ramps and a gore on either side) for a full station. The station will be one block to the east...

From the Application "The roadways will be narrowed to slow drivers who today are enticed to drive excessively fast by the wide roadways. The project will add green space and bumpouts to benefit people crossing these A-minor relievers on foot and mobility devices by shortening the crossing dis...

Re: Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville - General Topics
Thomson Reuters is looking to sell a portion of their Eagan campus as employees seek hybrid work arrangements. They are looking to sell 179 of their 263 acres. They may look for a smaller space for employees in the southeast metro. Vacancy in the office market in the Eagan area apparently increased...

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder and TCMC
There are some issues with class 1 with the biggest imo is the companies and investors being obsessed with operating ratios since I think a lot of them still think it's a dying industry. There was an interesting episode of a podcast called well there's your problem that went into a 3 hour discussio...

Re: Transit Crime
Instead of adding turnstiles why not remove fares? The savings in equipment and maintenance personnel would be significant. Busses would load faster without people queuing up to pay and I bet the operators would enjoy not having to deal with the drama the fare boxes can cause. To combat the drug use...

I thought this made a lot of sense: https://www.slowboring.com/p/amtrak-should-build-a-good-train Counter-video response from a really well respected train nerd, Alan Fisher. Kinda connects both sides here, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_oyZ8DIDMU&t=29s Alan Fisher has me thinking nationalis...

Re: Park and Portland Avenues
Yeah, it's going to be an improvement. But I've been a bit disappointed that nobody thought to dream a little bigger. What about returning one of the streets to two-way traffic and remaking the other as a greenway and linear park? Instead, the I-35W reconstruction status quo has just gotten baked i...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I think a cheaper way to raise ridership would be to increase bus service to existing LRT stations.Agreed but it will raise the ridership on the Blue and current Green lines.I'm guessing the green line extension will be hard pressed to match the ridership of the current blue or green line.

Maybe if someone redevelops the block then the street could be abandoned? One short street I think could be put to better use now is Nokomis Ln from 57th St to 16th Ave S. Why not build a triples here and have the land be a net positive rather than a useless drag on the city? https://www.google.com/...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
One thing the Blue line has that Riverview doesn't is connecting routes. VA, 46th, 38th, Lake street and Franklin Avenue are all basically transit hubs. Sandwiched between the river and I35E I'm not seeing any way to increase connecting routes so the stations will just draw from the surrounding popu...

Re: Cedar Ave Corridor - Richfield
I think at least having the lobby facing Richfield Parkway would have made a world of difference. It just gives the impression of looking at the back of the building instead of the front. The only thing missing is the dumpsters to complete the alleyway feel.
