Re: Doran Dinkytown Development
I have a feeling that it's going to be hard to get approvals for a 6-story building in that location. Is that permitted in the current zoning? Seems to me that something closer to 4 stories would be more likely to get neighborhood support.

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
I was under the impression that ADA regulations (e.g. elevators) and buliding codes (e.g. no party walls) are largely responsible for the tendency towards monoliths that we see today, although parking minima are undoubtedly partly to blame as well.

Re: Northrop Auditorium Renovation
Now that this appears to be nearing completion, does anyone know when they plan to turn the carillon back on? When they began construction and turned it off, I noticed that something was missing but it took me awhile to realize that it was the bells that were absent. There's something stately and ac...

Re: Transit News and Happenings
I wonder if the Route 16 note "Schedule times will be adjusted due to the end of major construction on the METRO Green Line (Central Corridor)" could mean that buses will soon return to Washington Ave/Mall through campus?

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Should we expect everyone out there to drive to work That's the choice people made. Actually, some people (like me) made the choice to live in Eden Prairie partly due to the availability of transit. While I would have liked to live in a more urban area, my wife's work schedule and location made thi...

I like the masonry and stone style that they chose for the base and one of the towers. The grey stone has a sort of stateliness to it.

Re: Paragon Outlets - Eagan
Eh, I guess you have to start somewhere. First comes density, then comes traffic calming, transit use, and auto-weaning, and eventually you have something resembling an urban environment. In places like Eagan, you've got to take progress where you can get it.

Re: The Interchange
Just last night someone asked where to catch the South West Transit bus to Edina (I know this will eventually be eliminated for the Green Line extension). SWT has lots of frequency to/from EP, Chanhassen, and Chaska, but I think there's only something like ~3 trips per day each way that go through ...

Re: Interstate 94
How about a compromise: appropriate funds to add a 3rd lane to the interstate all the way to St. Cloud, but implement a moratorium on new interchanges and/or reduce access where appropriate. Both of these will help alleviate mainline congestion and maintain the highway's primary character as an inte...

Re: Sioux Falls - East Bank redevelopment
The City has released a DEIS for the project: http://www.siouxfalls.org/public-works/special-projects/rr-relocation-plan/draft-ea/draft-env-assessment.aspx The redevelopment proposal is quite sad: 10 acres of land, 4 new buildings totalling 320,000 s.f., and 1,200 new parking spots. The good news is...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Huh? That can't be right. I just looked at the season schedule, and the Vikings have 8 home games this year, with the last 4 being Nov. 7, Dec. 1, Dec. 15 and Dec. 29. And, they have to have a stadium available if they make the post-season, I assume. Can you clarify?

Re: Pleasant St and Pillsbury Dr Roundabout
The Knoll is a fantastic place and the Mall works well and will be even better without auto traffic. It's what you get when a real architect designs space. :) Agreed. I work in the Physics dept. in Tate Lab, and I'm really not looking forward to moving into the new Physics and Nanotech Building. Th...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Yes, the LRT trail becomes crushed limestone west of Shady Oak. It's pretty well maintained, though, so I wouldn't worry too much about blowing your tire, I'd worry more about the shitty wayfinding. Luce Line is blacktop quite far out, it looks like to Vicksburg, though I've never made it that far....

Re: The Station on Washington - (630 Washington Avenue SE)
The sidewalk in front of this project (along Washington Mall) is now open. Previously, pedestrians were detoured onto the EB traffic lane of the Mall, so I'm cautiously optimistic that, with that lane now unencumbered, the WATM can be re-opened to buses by the beginning of Fall semester. (I also see...

Re: E-Street Flats - Arden Hills, Lexington + Cty Rd E
As mentioned in another thread, this area is heavily trafficked (by car for those who have one, by foot for those who don't) by Bethel students. An improved pedestrian realm (and some relaxation by Bethel on their campus lockdown after dark - come on, these are college kids!) could help this area de...
