Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
The idea is that having the in-house team would enable the faster development of new transitways. During downtime between large projects they could potentially work on smaller improvements to existing infrastructure maybe?

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Oh absolutely! Just as the issues with the Lake Street LRT station have erased any opportunity of an elevated station, the Kenilworth section has destroyed the possibilities of an underground section. I was going to post this over in the Blue Line discussion but I think its relevant here too: I thin...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I'm starting to think that the project delays are a blessing in disguise. It gives Metro Transit time to hire more security/trip agents and fix any of the current issues on trains. It also gives them time to hire more operators for both the new LRT service and also for any new bus routes that may be...

Re: Suburban Transit (Opt-out Services Providers)
https://mvta.portal.civicclerk.com/event/2181/files/attachment/1455 MVTA is beginning the process of replacing their bus stop signs! First route to be updated will be 442. It's a nice improvement, and I think it will be much more visible from a distance compared to the current ones. I'm also a suck...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
If Met Council staff members reject a MnDOT recommendation regarding a light-rail line, work cannot move forward on that part of the project until the dispute is resolved, the law states. Would be funny if MnDOT's involvement results in higher costs and delays. MnDOT has less railway experience tha...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Yes, I went on the Kenilworth Tunnel Tour yesterday, and they mentioned this was always in the plans to shift the freight rail to make sure they were following their Environmental Plan.

I wish they said that when responding to KSTP! Would have put an end to the NIMBY argument.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Quarterly service changes effective June 3rd (MVTA) and June 15th (Metro Transit). Lots of construction rerouting, but there are a number of more substantial changes. Here are the highlights: Metro Transit - 2-car trains to be used 7 days a week on both Green and Blue lines - Route 10 sees more trip...

Forgive me if this has an obvious answer, but what happens to the comprehensive plan next? Does it have to go through the city council again?

Welcome, angrysuburbanite. Awesome name. As hard as urbanism is to do in cities, it's twice as hard in suburbs. Welcome to the revolution. Thanks! It didn't take too long to come up with a username haha! It's crazy that I am already at 104 posts... I feel that my contributions to conversations have...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Nice to see that Northstar has now surpassed (checks notes) vanpool to be the second least used transit mode in the metro. I love how the productivity per in-service hour tanked right after they added new service. Ridership hasn't really come back at all other than the sport events they ran service...

Re: Northern Lights Express
It's just really difficult because we essentially have three hubs for different modes of transportation in the Twin Cities: Amtrak is primarily in St. Paul, Local travel is centered around Downtown Minneapolis, and air travel is out of Bloomington. As the plans stand today, it would be annoying to ...

Re: Northern Lights Express
Is there any concept about how this would work as an extension of Borealis? Or how other Amtrak passengers could transfer to Duluth without a Green Line hop? Seems like trains could back up into or out of TFS with the Minneapolis Junction wye (and again, I've suggested they make the double track ac...

Glad to see this start service. As someone who has never ridden Amtrak before, I'll be trying this out sometime, either as a day trip down to Red Wing or Winona or Chicago! I hope that the introduction of trips during the day means SPUD will be convinced to make the concourse feel like a public spac...

Re: Minnetonka Area β General Topics
This whole saga is so hilarious. I just saw the "Save historic minnetonka mills" signs for the first time last week and was curious, and discovering that they were complaining about "high density housing" (this isn't even that dense...) on an empty lot and calling it "histor...

Re: Discontinued Bus Routes
Anyone know the history of post-streetcar transit in the Excelsior area? I was surprised to see a number of abandoned T signs and benches as far out as Tonka Bay. As far as I can tell, the only remaining Minnetonka Lakes routes operational at this point are the 667 with 2 round trips and 645 which o...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Not to be too much of a downer, but I would of thought that after 20 years we would of had more then 2 frequent train lines in the cities (although tbf I was 6 and probably didn't know anything beyond it was cool) I wonder how we compare to other cities in terms of how long it takes to add more rai...
