Re: Saint Paul enacts rent control
The idea that capital has many options at this point in time is ridiculous. Every day, asset managers have to talk clients off the ledge from putting their money in dubious novel investment schemes. So generally they advise to invest in equities whose values are unmoored from any established investm...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
No matter the wording or how watered down a proposal, or what politicians were on the ballot the right wing pro business groups (who have no issue whatsoever with the police) would have fought tooth and nail against. The only functioning newspaper is owned a partisan Republican who has stated he wan...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
There is not a path for police reform. The police have zero interest. The mayor has zero interest. They would prefer to payout multimillion dollar settlements every year than change one thing about their rotten department. Too bad for Minneapolis taxpayer, at least the guys who live in Anoka County ...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
I despise obvious racist violence that without full video context goes unpunished and I hate extremely wasteful municipal spending. Amendment 2 goes after both. The major incidents (and coverups) would have been better served without pseudo soldiers. Don't worry 'The Punisher' type guys will still b...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
I understand many on here are okay with racist violence, but have you considered how bad of a deal the police are financially? People will moan about Northstar being expensive, but cops not showing up to work and gloating, think those same police deserve a raise. If a Metro transit operator bragged ...

I would not be surprised to learn Frey did a ton of blackface over the years.Frey actually reminds me a lot of Justin Trudeau.

I spent more than a month living in close proximity to the future Opus Station. A quick few observations. -The area does have potential! My previous experience, I wanted to leave as soon as possible due to the confusing road design. But pedestrian experience, at least in the summer was pretty good. ...

U of Chicago, lets say has a certain reputation. The Chicago School, the "Chicago Boys", the university's police department, just generally seen as conservative and pro big business. To me seems to be a curious decision, not necessarily bad, and maybe it was the best for her. Oxford has a ...

Uptown retail/hospitality might go through a period where national chains and high concept high achieving concepts shun the area. Maybe picks up a bit of punk crust that some feel it once had. The location is too good to be down for long. Houses are still expensive in the area that's for sure.

Boom Island Brewery guy made up a bunch of stuff when he moved from N Mpls to Minnetonka. It happens all the time, when you've been around the block a few time you know not to take small business owners statements at face value.

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
I think that this is something that all areas of the country are going to grapple with at some point. The fact that there was a conviction gives some semblance that accountability can be found. Granted the area has had several high profile incidents and one that was insanely egregious.

The guys who moved the Sonics from a large and prosperous metro area to a much less affluent and smaller market, who subsequently lucked into a GM who was brilliant in the draft. Then they couldn't pay the players they drafted because they were in too small of a market. One of the Thunder owners end...

In regards to Wells Fargo, pre COVID my wife had to negotiate in order to work from home. Her team is dispersed around the country, she would have been the only one in Minneapolis, but they still wanted her to come into an office everyday. She got lucky because she had the fully WFH setup while most...

I agree. It seems like that the walls of bullshit built up the MPD over the decades to defend egregious actions of its staff are going to fall. End the Stanek rule. Renegotiation of the police union contract that will have broad public and institutional support. Only the most hardcore reactionaries ...
