Re: MSP Airport
The 767s Delta flies on some Europe routes (from MSP, they fly some Asian routes ex-SEA) seat closer to 200. The MSP-NRT flight is now a 777-200, which seats a little over 250. Several big picture things going on here 1) long-term trend towards big twin jets for long haul. The A-380 is the giant exc...

Re: Major League Soccer Stadium
The Forsyth Barr and Westpac stadiums on that page are both good (Westpac's in my home town).
Forsyth Barr is interesting because it's "the world's only stadium featuring a natural grass pitch under a fully fixed roof." Worth investigating for a soccer stadium in Minnesota.

If you support what would be a transformational development at this station, you should also make plans to attend the December 7th meeting and speak in support of the project. I will be there!

Re: MSP Airport
Still waiting for British, Lufthansa, Korean and JetBlue. We'll be waiting a long, long time ... British is the most likely of the international carriers, and has a lot of destinations in the US but the smallest metro area they fly to where another airline competes is Vegas [Virgin] and that's obvi...

Re: MSP Airport
UA flights sometimes park on D or low-number C gates on late night arrivals and all the regular UA gates are full. I think they are then moved back over to E concourse for their departure the next morning. UA has more corporate presence in the MSP market than one might suspect. They picked up some b...

Re: RISE at Prospect Park - 2929 University Ave SE
Am I seeing these pictures correctly? There's a garage entrance ramp facing the light rail platform and the grocery story is tucked into the back, facing a parking lot? There is a garage entrance ramp facing the light rail platform where there is already a curb cut on 29th. As I understand it, that...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I'd like to see the corridor east of 27th St, including the bridge over I-94, railbanked. The stretch west of 27th to Essex doesn't matter nearly as much, especially since the Melrose/Stadium View turd is already in the way north of Essex. This -- since 27th is the route for the Grand Rounds it's t...

Re: Zoning in Minneapolis
My understanding from talking to a long-time city planner is that at the last major revision of the zoning code existing buildings were given the zoning of what they were, rather than any attempt at consistency. There's a logic to that, but it's not a forward looking one.

Re: 815 13th Ave SE
My guess is that holding a number of small properties with demonstrated cash flow is rather convenient in terms of lining up good financing for new projects: They're standalone assets that can easily be used as collateral, or as part of restructuring an investment shell for a project, etc. It's als...

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
I don't think they value a wayfinding design for whatever reason. Perhaps it's because the mall is only a regional mall and not a national tourist destination. Plus having shoppers getting lost means more time wandering around in the mall equals more shopping time which in return means more sales. ...

Re: MSP Airport
No idea what the distribution of complaints is here vs elsewhere, but having flown to/from a lot of America's major airports and preferring window seats I can say that our airport is probably unusually residential under the take-off path in prevailing winds (northwest). To the south the departure pa...

That is what locals call that building.Hmm. The recessed windows remind me of what I used to call the "TV Building" on University Avenue.

Well, I forgot a final paragraph or two -- I don't see the McDonald's as historic, even with its odd architecture. Show of hands for anyone who ever sat in the upper level of the building? Anyone? *raises hand* I have. It's kinda nice as it's usually pretty quiet. ...but last time I was there, I sa...

More repetition of the same details from the local rag that suggests the retail space is a bike shop. Hard to tell. In any case, better to build with the flexibility of retail to come later and use the space for something in the interim. Form, not function, people. http://www.parkbugle.org/new-apart...

Re: MSP Airport
As I posted above, I hope that need will be analyzed given that AMS, LHR, and NRT may have preclearance. This is not the forum for a full discussion (go to airliners.net or flyertalk) but preclearance is a dubious idea for the airlines, at LHR particularly (multiple, poorly connected terminals). It...

Re: Opus Stadium Village Tower
If you go up to the top floors of Philips Wangensteen you can get a sense in some corridors of what the views will be like looking west and north to Minneapolis. If this project works out I wouldn't be surprised to see more towers along Washington 5-10 years hence. The zoning allows it, and it's a d...
