Re: The Commons - Downtown East Park
Vikings will still have the right to hold events at the Commons on game days. Couldn't they decide to erect tents at the morgue *and* on the Commons? This deal expands their options on game days. Also using morgue parking lot will cost nearly $300k per year from MSFA (public dollars). Am I understan...

Re: Southside - General Topics
Anyone know what happened to the Taco Bell at Franklin/Minnehaha? Looks like there was a major fire or something.

Re: Nice Ride Minnesota
But it's a nice amenity as part of the Twin Cities' transportation network. I own a bike, but I love the flexibility of taking a NiceRide somewhere, and then maybe I'll bus home instead, or use Car2Go. It's too bad they rushed to expand into St Paul; from the ridership numbers, it looks like that's ...

Surprised nobody has speculated about the Consortium's involvement in this yet.

Re: Upper Mississippi -- No Locks For You
He's got a point though -- this had nothing to do with Asian carp. What I don't understand is that by closing the locks are they going to eventually remove them? If so, wouldn't that make it EASIER for Asian Carp to penetrate new areas? Also, what if somebody, anybody, decides to be a dick and brin...

Re: Riverside Plaza
Minneapolis has rules about how many "unrelated" people can live together, but I don't know of any rules/laws regarding family size.

Bummer that 38th St isn't due for reconstruction for 20 to 30 years. That street is just way too wide.

Re: Downtown Parking
The fees for violating Minn. Statutes 169.34 (parking offenses) are set at the state level... not sure why this would apply to parking violations in private garages, but the state is definitely involved in this type of thing. Remember the red light cameras in Minneapolis? Supreme Court shut them dow...

Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation
Scott Neal deals with the city budget and Edina's municipal liquor stores are an important revenue stream. I think their split is explained by their very different roles: the citizens want to be able to buy booze whenever they want, so their elected Senator votes for Sunday sales, but the pragmatic ...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
This parcel is owned by Franchise Realty Interstate, which I think is the land holding arm of McD's. McD's typically owns the parcel of land on which their franchises are located. The franchisee then pays rent to McD's. So I would guess that you need to convince someone in the Franchise Realty Inter...

What's your point, Rich? Regardless of the size of his personal contribution, I'd wager that he's coming out ahead in this deal. Are you arguing otherwise?

Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation
I still don't understand why no one has proposed a floating holiday every week for liquor stores. That is, you can be open six days, but we won't prescribe which day you close. Then you'd get some variety, and almost all of them would choose to be open on Sunday.

Re: Sunday Liquor Sales and other Beer/Liquor Legislation
Even if Bakk opposes, Sunday sales could be brought to the floor as an amendment to the omnibus liquor bill. I really wouldn't hold your breath. Many municipalities own and operate liquor stores that are vital for their budgets. They oppose Sunday sales and they probably have more clout than the Tea...

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
Adam Vogue of Finance & Commerce pointed out that Ryan previously said that height is limited to 4 or 5 stories on the north side of the WF towers. Might be a small hotel.
