Re: Saint Paul Union Depot
I guess I haven't been keeping up with this thread, as I was caught totally off guard when the driver of the Megabus I'm sitting on announced that the Saint Paul stop has moved to SPUD (aka "Saint Paul Transit Center", but hey, at least we're not going to "Minnessippi" this time....

Re: Stadium Parking Ramp Air Rights Development
It's tough to make a call without knowing some more details on the cancelled Ryan buildings fronting 3rd. I think it's probably a good bet that if Ryan can't build over the ramp, we'll see those units on 3rd sooner rather than later. It's probably also a good bet that a midsize hotel will pop up wit...

Re: Intercity rail to Chicago
Also, I wonder if at some point it would make sense to terminate the Empire Builder at SPUD and then through-connect passengers to Chicago. The EB's segment west of MSP is notoriously unreliable from a timetable perspective, and if a train got in late they could connect those passengers on the next...

Re: West Calhoun Tower Proposed (Tryg's Site)
Tough to beleive it makes economic sense to tear down a building that was so thoroughly renovated less than 10 years ago where there are tons of surface lots within just a couple blocks.

Thanks, twincitizen. Per that document it looks like the building fronting 4th in front of the parking ramp is also not proposed as part of Phase I.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I appologize for being a little behind here, but does anyone know which of the 6 residential buildings are actually proposed to be built concurrent with the office towers? Obviously all six residential buildings total much more than the 400 units that keep getting mentioned, but even the 400 unit nu...

Re: Green Line (Central Corridor LRT)
Even now, with the line unopened, I think that University feels like a much more welcoming place to be. The streetscape is fantastic and much more enjoyable as a pedestrian, and while I haven't driven through during peak times, traffic has been, in my limted antecedal experience, no worse than it wa...

Re: Midtown Corridor
Another thing to think about re:interlining and double track is the possibility of a future Nicollet/Central connection. I understand MNdible's argument regarding not spending too much money on trying to future-proof for things that aren't going to happen for certain yet, but I think even in the mid...

Yeah, I don't think this project is "tower in the park" by any stretch of the imagination.

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
The Thunderbird! There are severe FAA-imposed height restrictions on the property to the east of the MOA. This is also why the old DoubleTree hotel tower was demolished about a decade ago, because it was within the runway exclusion zone.

Re: Empire Builder
My westbound train last Friday, which left Chicago 2 hours late, ended up sitting just outside Midway for 40 minutes while we waited for the 16-hours-behind eastbound to do their layover. Good thing we have three platforms at Midway, so we can make one train wait outside the station for 40 minutes o...

Re: Mall of America - Bloomington
A few new tidbits in that article that hadn't been mentioned before (at least to my knowledge):
--There will be a 2-story parking garage below the 1C expansion.
--The office building pictured in all the renderings is not actually being built at this time.

Re: POLL: Fare free zone on campus or make the U-Pass mandat
I think it's ridiculous that the U doesn't require U-passes yet. Most of Chicago's urban universities require them (at double Metro Transit's price), and I've heard very few complaints. I would argue that transit has the potential to be almost as valuable at the U (at least after the Green Line open...

Re: 2013 Minneapolis Municipal Election
13th Ward might be the first instance of ranked-choice voting turning a race. Perry tails Palmisano by 400 first-choice votes, but has 300 second-choice and 400 third-choice on her. Will be interesting to see how this one shakes out.

Re: Chicago
There are system maps in the vast majority of stations, usually just inside the fare zone and on the platforms. Route maps and timetables are typically by the ticket machines outside the fare zone, and also on platforms at transfer stations, as well as some non-transfer stations... You can transfer ...

Re: LPM Apartments - (1368 LaSalle Avenue)
The tower might, but that base would be a huge waste of suave. It would have to go eat of Michigan, west of Wells, or north of Chicago.
