Re: Lowery Hotel Building
There's a lot of vacant street level retail space on this block. Hopefully it gets filled with something worthwhile. Hopefully it gets filled with something. :| Some of the ground floor will be for Ramsey County: "So far, the biggest tenant is Ramsey County. County Attorney John Choi moved som...

Re: Lost Project
Apparently, this project just came back to life. Unfortunately, Ortega gives a thumbs up to the banal Opus design: "In recent weeks, the last remaining county employees moved out of the West Publishing building. The Ramsey County Board of Commissioners is expected to revisit a vote it took in 2...

Re: Lost Project
The man behind that proposal was Dean Johnson of Wingfield. A St. Paul native who had lived in Belguim for a long time. Not only did he offer a vision for redeveloping the West Publish/Jail site, but he also offered a proposal for Wabasha Court. When the real estate crash hit in 2008, he pretty much...

Done deal. "The former U.S. Post Office on Kellogg Boulevard in downtown St. Paul was sold Friday to a local development group, which plans to turn the Art Deco building into market-rate apartments." http://www.twincities.com/business/ci_23879551/st-paul-post-office-building-will-house-mar...

Re: Downtown Saint Paul Post Office
From the PP article:
Anyone know if that has happened, or will happen this week? The purchase, which would close in July, is the latest evidence that the private market is feeling optimistic about development opportunities in downtown St. Paul.

I seem to recall reading at one point, that they thought the height of the surrounding buildings would allow a west facing field.

Re: Saints Lowertown Ballpark
I like Hosko's idea, but only if they replace the white outer walls with something non-industrial. Also, I had been thinking in the past that it would be great if they could build the new ball park over a parking structure. Since I hadn't seen it proposed, I assumed it was too expensive or not feasi...

Also, the nearby Urban League building sits empty. I know there was a lawsuit to block the sale of that building, but I haven't heard the outcome. It would be great to see someone redevelop that end of the block where the CVA, Costello's, Urban League, and a convenience store currently sit.

Re: Downtown Saint Paul Post Office
The last vestiges of the post office, the counter and P.O. boxes, will be moving to U.S. Bank building in February.

Re: Schmidt Brewery Apartment Conversion
The latest Highland Villager has a story that they want to put a 36 hole miniature golf course on the property. Personally, what I really want is the Rathskeller opened as a bar opened to the public or as a part of the proposed draft brewery. Since it's St. Paul, I imagine there's little chance to g...

Re: Downtown Saint Paul Post Office
Is the new addition between the main post office and the railroad tracks a parking ramp? Is it included in the sale of the building? If it's a parking ramp, I'd chop off the top five or six floors which would make for much better view from the main post office building. If it isn't a parking ramp, I...

From the Highland Villager: "The properties to be redeveloped include the three-story bank building at Selby and Snelling, a large parking lot, and four rental houses east of the lot. North of Dayton Avenue, the bank own four more houses, a metal storage buidling, a parking lot, green space and...

If they're going to build a micro-brewery on the site, it would be a shame if they didn't use the Rathskeller as the tasting room.

Re: 300 University (Old Home Dairy)
Rendering of the proposed Old Home redevelopment: http://www.twincities.com/stpaul/ci_21863898/minnesota-housing-east-metro-projects-among-29-benefiting My initial take is "blah". I would have preferred some attempt to incorporate the Art Deco aspects of the existing Old Home building into...
