Minneapolis Armory
The owner of the Minneapolis Armory wants to do a $16 million renovation, which would likely include a new second level inside. Apparently this has been spurred by plans for a new Vikings stadium, and the armory could be a party zone for Vikings game days (don't ask me how that would work...) http:/...

Re: Southwest LRT
I think there's a pot of $60 million in DEED money that the Southwest folks are eyeballing (though they'd only need a fraction for engineering work).

Re: Interstate 94
No, at least not for now. That's been studied, but this plan doesn't include MnPASS lanes. The signs will do things like display an advised speed limit (decreasing from 55 during congested periods), designate lanes as closed or obstructed (following crashes), and there will be a sign above the right...

Nice Ride has expanded into downtown Saint Paul (and a little into the West Side), so now you can ride all the way from Lowry & Penn in Minneapolis to Cesar Chavez (Concord) and State Street in St. Paul without a bike of your own.

I-94 resurfacing from MN-280 to downtown Minneapolis is almost complete, with a final full road closure this weekend. I think the "smart lane" dynamic signage is all installed, but I have no idea when it will be activated. (The signs are mounted on hinges and are currently facing the wrong...

MSP to Rochester High Speed Rail
Not a whole lot to report on the Rochester rail link, but they and the FRA have written up a statement of work and plan to put out bids for someone to handle their Alternatives Analysis and Tier 1 EIS.

Northern Lights Express
I think the Northern Lights Express project is finally about ready to release their Environmental Impact Statement. LIDAR mapping of the route (for design and engineering purposes) occurred in April, and they're working on a study of a possible extension loop out to the casino in Hinckley. As far as...

Buck's Unpainted Furniture - Roseville
Not sure what the deal was with this -- a renovation or rebuild of Buck's Unpainted Furniture on Larpenteur (west of Snelling) in Roseville.

On time, on budget, scheduled to open in December, according to Jim McDonough. Ramsey County Regional Rail Authority has supposedly moved their offices into the building as of last month (May). Here's a shot of where the actual Amtrak lobby area will be. They're busy tearing up a strip of Kellogg Bo...

First the project that the existing Wisconsin governor claims to support (we'll see what happens tomorrow): At today's Passenger Rail Forum meeting, we were informed that the 9-month study for a second daily train held a kickoff meeting on May 15th following a "hi-rail" tour for interested...

Spirit Airlines began service out of MSP this past week. They're supposed to help drive down prices, though one of their initial markets will be to Chicago where there's already fairly decent competition. Spirit is heavily into the a la carte add-on business, where even putting a carry-on into an ov...

Hines Speculative Office Project - 350 N 5th Street
When last we left our hero, I believe the city of Minneapolis had passed a conditional use permit for the Dock Street Apartments, and transit officials were finally beginning to raise a stink about clearance issues in the rail trench which also carries the Cedar Lake Trail extension. There was indee...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
I went to Mn/DOT's Passenger Rail Forum meeting today and there was a significant presentation talking about how they were squeezing in the tracks next to the Dock Street Apartments. Mn/DOT and the Interchange folks have been scrambling over the past 10 weeks or so to get things going, following a C...

Double crossovers have been laid next to TPT (1 block west of SPUD), and the pair of single crossovers appeared to be in place between Cedar and Robert along 12th Street. Neither area has had them embedded in concrete yet, though. Here are the ones along 12th Street: https://lh5.googleusercontent.co...
