Sounds like they are consolidating ops from the Sons of Norway building. Also seems like they're interested in reducing impact to Lake from cars exiting. Hopefully they're not proposing a curb cut directly on Lake, that would be worse than what's currently there...

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Dang it Nick, you stole my idea. So I'll just post this pic I took yesterday of construction all done on 29th and Aldrich. 10 years ago I stood there (before any new buildings were built) and told somebody that parking might start to be a pain in that neighborhood pretty soon. I used to be able to park on the left there without any trouble and walk over to Herkimer. Now I just park north on Aldrich.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Imagine those trees in about 10 years, in fall. They're going to look really great with the color palette of the current buildings. What's funny about this is that to someone who either just moved to Minneapolis or just got into Minneapolis development (like me). This would look completely normal. So just a reminder of what used to be: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.950103, ... !2e0?hl=en

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
It's crazy how fast things change. I remember back in 2005 or so when the Mill District was a bunch of parking lots, went back a few years later after I moved out of SE, and there was an entire neighborhood there. North Loop, this corridor on 29th St are the same story. Even Washington in Stadium Village is something else now!
Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
As someone who moved to Minneapolis in 2009 (and didn't explore much outside the U area until the year following), it's hard to imagine going by a lot of these sites that used to just be empty lots or otherwise underused parcels. You can't even really take in the enormous amount of change until you see photos like the one Nick posted along the Greenway.

That old Google maps makes me feel like I'm in a time machine. Yep, 10 years ago I really had no reason to hang out in the mill district. It was just a bunch of metrodome parking lots. And when I'm on Washington Avenue at the U I don't even recognize it anymore. That happened really fast.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
It literally sends chills down my veins and my spine when I see an area totally rejuvenated like that. It's going to be fun riding the green line this summer. I'm expecting a lot of new construction and renovations.

I like how the tops of those buildings line up perfectly.

Nice shot!
I'd love to see that image replicated as closely as possibly in June or July, when the exterior work on Elan is complete and everything is all lush and green.
And yeah, this corridor needs rail ASAP.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Kind of like Paris when they had that certain height limit and all the building were very close to the same height. Then They did the Mansford roof to get an extra story in. It is amazing how the land along the greenway has change in the last decade. Especially in the last 5 years alone. Will be glad when summer comes and the Promenade will extend from Aldrich to Girard.I like how the tops of those buildings line up perfectly.
Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Would be really great if they could connect it directly to Hennepin. Damn parking lots in the way though! Will be glad when summer comes and the Promenade will extend from Aldrich to Girard.
Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
One thing we have to remember is that the promenade is not a true public side walk, but a private walk that the public can use. The promenade could easily reach Hennepin, but the owner would be the one putting it in and taking away parking that would not be beneficial to the business.Would be really great if they could connect it directly to Hennepin. Damn parking lots in the way though! Will be glad when summer comes and the Promenade will extend from Aldrich to Girard.

Re: Uptown General Topics & Development Map
Hey, is anyone going to the LHENA Zoning & Planning Committee tonight?
There are a couple items of interest on the agenda: http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=a34 ... 807658db4b
6:45 p.m. Girard Avenue Apartments
1. Presentation by DJR Architecture Inc.
2. Q & A and Discussion by meeting attendees
(40 min)
7:25 p.m. 2743 Dupont Avenue Proposal for 4-Plex
1. Presentation by CNC Construction
2. Q & A and Discussion by meeting attendees.
(30 min)
Anyone know anything about the first item? Girard only exists between 27th and Lake in LHENA, so it's pretty limited in where it could be. I'm guessing it's the several lots north of Flux.
That second one is weird, because it's a triplex today. I'm guessing it's in rough shape and will be replaced by a modern 4-plex that can command higher rents. It sold for just $290,000 less than a year ago, which is pretty low for a triplex in this area. Still, the land acquisition + new construction (maybe $500,000 for a 4-plex?) seems like a stretch in terms of being "worth it". Also, same property owner as the lots adjacent to Flux (KLP Real Estate). Anyone know who they are? Seems they've acquired a number of properties in the area.
