Re: Conrad Hotel @ Plymouth Building - 12 6th Street S
I've heard it's Embassy Suites going in.
Re: Conrad Hotel @ Plymouth Building - 12 6th Street S
Finally, a place for all of the ambassadors to stay while they're in town.
Re: A Hotel (?) @ Plymouth Building - 12 6th Street S
Embassy Suites would be nice to have downtown...there used to be the old crummy one in Centre Village that managed to grasp on to their flag several years too long...
Re: A Hotel (?) @ Plymouth Building - 12 6th Street S
The thing I liked about Embassy Suite was the two room suite that gave you a place to hangout instead of in the sleeping area. I hope it come to fruition.

It's about as thematic as a hotel can get outside of DisneyWorld.

Nice one Grant - do you know if that hotel still exists in Indy?
Re: A Hotel (?) @ Plymouth Building - 12 6th Street S
It was demolished in 1961 and is now the site of the Hyatt Regency and Eagle's Nest Restaurant (which rotates and provides panoramic views of the city).Nice one Grant - do you know if that hotel still exists in Indy?

It's been 24 hours since I read this one-liner, and it still makes me laugh.

Like I said...love Embassy Suites format...though I don't believe I have ever seen one in an old building. I know they have been getting away from their traditional central atrium design in some of their newer properties... Will be interesting to see how it turns out! Lets up all goes through this time!

Re: A Hotel (?) @ Plymouth Building - 12 6th Street S
They could actually easily create their signature central atrium facing 5th.

They might have some trouble getting that past the HPC. Or maybe not, if they left the existing portion the same?

I don't think that the HPC will worry that much about the light well. Under the Conrad they were planning some changes to the light well itself too. They are more worried about the street facing exterior and possibility some of the architectural features inside the building' s lobby.

The left lane of 6th is closed, there's a work area flagged off on the Hennepin sidewalk, and workers are bustling around. It's a big month for this part of Hennepin Ave.

At 290 rooms, this should be the 6th or 7th largest hotel in Minneapolis. While we've added a lot of hotels over the past 10-15 years, this one will have the largest economic impact on Minneapolis since it's double the size of most hotels that have gone in over that same time period. I'm hoping they do an incredible job bringing the building back to life finally getting a restaurant open on that corner that will stay open for more than two years.

Re: A Hotel (?) @ Plymouth Building - 12 6th Street S
Doesn't Plymouth Building have a large light well in the center? Wouldn't that sort of fit with the general layout of Embassy Suites where the purpose-built structures are a full-height courtyard in the middle, with all room doors facing it?
Which makes me think the old Metropolitan Bldg would have been the perfect Embassy Suites conversion. If it wasn't the perfect framework for a dozen other uses first. But alas, we tore it down in a fit of hubris.
