Ooooo, that looks pretty slick! Too bad the nabes are gonna cut it down to size -- literally.

The tower portion is now detailed. The base, though accurate to the design specs, has yet to be colored.

It will be pretty cool when/if all the towers proposed for this neighborhood get built.

Well, this is interesting. Scrapped in favor of a six story building:

Well aside from less density, it sounds nice. No parking podium means more retail on the street, no?

I get the feeling this may have been what they wanted all along.

(And this will also block the church, but instead with a chunkier building. C'est la vie)

As someone who lives in the neighborhood, the thing that killed the tower's appeal for me was the parking podium. The parking is now underground, so I'm happy (saying this having not yet seen the new proposal.) The street presence of the Riverplace Pinnacle building is just oppressive. I realize the ground floor retail softened it quite a bit, but I still don't want more of that. Would a tower have been nice? Sure. Not worth the above ground parking to me, though.

The design of the tower wasn't a slam dunk (aka parking podium) and you had the hassle and risk of moving a historic building etc etc. I'm not sure if there was an ideal outcome here with all the competing interests (Nye's aficionados, the Church, the developer/landowner) but honestly this isn't a bad compromise. I'm hoping for a good rendering. Will be interesting to see what they do in the space between the two historic buildings.

Now the church will be walled from view by a bland 6 story block... A tower could have drawn you eye up and actually complemented the church. Now they get mediocrity.

Also I'm sure digging up underground parking will have way less impact on the church then the tower plan.

I thought that the tower parking went above ground so they would not have to disturb the bedrock to get underground parking. So now with the 6 story we will have vibration as they work on the bedrock to get the underground parking. Don't see that helping the church foundation at all. But then again, some who would throw the baby out with the bathwater mentality, will think this is a win for them. To me it is a bigger lose due to greater risk of bedrock vibration digging the underground parking :?:

#NyeNoRise

And I'm kinda with Wedgeguy, part of me hopes they give the church the ugliest 6 story stick build we've seen yet.

Maybe nice on the Hennepin side, butt make it butt ugly facing the church. I'm all for that. This whole thing makes no sense at all. Give them something to ponder for awhile!
