Excuse me but what is moot point?
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
It technically means something that is subject to debate or uncertainty. But it's usually used to in everyday speech to say something such as a question is not worth discussing.Excuse me but what is moot point?
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
Or, as Joey Tribiani explains it. It is a Moo Point. A cow's opinion.....doesn't matter.

Here ya go.Excuse me but what is moot point?
An issue regarded as potentially debatable, but no longer practically applicable. Although the idea may still be worth debating and exploring academically, and such discussion may be useful for addressing similar issues in the future, the idea has been rendered irrelevant for the present issue.
Example from online - Until we rebuild downtown, whether we build more parking spaces is a moot point.

Colored panels are going up, no need to worry! The ones so far are a nice, deep red, almost maroon.

Kinda hard to see the red panels but I think it will look really good.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
Kinda wish they'd gone with a larger variety of colors around the base. Also, the Nicollet Mall side has some fins or something on the side, which I figure are probably light fixtures of some sort.

It looked like they have most of the horizontal red panel in and it looks nice. Too bad they couldn't have done a little more with the horizontal louvers.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
I've been wondering if the louvers are going to be lit up at night or have some type of banners attached? I do like them as they add some variety to the flat façade on the Nicollet Mall side.It looked like they have most of the horizontal red panel in and it looks nice. They were lit up tonight. Changing colors, too. Saw a good half dozen different bright colors as I walked by.I've been wondering if the louvers are going to be lit up at night or have some type of banners attached? It'll hold lots of residents, but the retail space is setback too far and feels like another ground-floor office space.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
We'll see how it feels once they pull the scaffolds away and open the sidewalk, but looking at it lately, I'm hopeful that I'll be pleasantly surprised by how the tower meets the corner on the Nicollet side...
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
I think the retail is going to have to have a really good tenant... I dunno. This tower just doesn't... feel good. I think it'll be the luxury tower of this era that looses that acclaim the fastest.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
There'll be the obligatory restaurant on the Nicollet Mall side and 5th Street will probably be leased as office/and or service retail. My prediction is it will be underwhelming. The tower does meets the corner at Nicollet Mall very well and that's its saving grace. The views from any other angle make it look bland and stubby. Fortunately, Marq4 and Xcel will cover up some of those sides from sight. Unfortunately, many of the rental units at Nic on Fifth will lose their current views which will detract from their desirability. Agree with you Nathan. It will be a mid-range rental in about 10-15 years.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
I think it looks pretty good from a couple blocks NW on 5th, too. It doesn't even look bad from the east, just not inspiring.
I've never really understood the hate about this building. It's a little short, sure, and a little bland, but it's not a turd by any stretch. I'm glad it's there.

They're painting the back wall tan to match the rest of the building. It's still a ginormous blank concrete wall, but I guess tan is better than unpainted grey.

Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
A wall that the new 9 story Xcel HQ building and 30 story Marq4 will completely block from view. So its enormity and color really aren't that important. But nice that they're 'sprucing it up'.They're painting the back wall tan to match the rest of the building. It's still a ginormous blank concrete wall, but I guess tan is better than unpainted grey.
Re: Nic on Fifth - (290' - 26 Stories)
Well, there's a decent chance my cube will face that wall, but for the general public, you're right, the wall is only a problem until the new buildings get built.
