North facing concrete wall is now being painted what looks to be a gray tone.

Not sure if they'll be painting all the cream color to that, or have two colors. It looks nice.

The whole side was tan earlier today, so the dark gray appears to be the second coat.

Opus is also nearing completion of the higher-profile Nic on Fifth apartment building in downtown Minneapolis. A media tour of the Nic will be held Monday. Residents will start moving in Sept. 12.

Great! Maybe now they'll take down their stupid sidewalk tunnel that's been on Nicollet about two month longer than it needed to be.

A number of photos have been posted to Metro Transit's Flickr feed looking at the LRT tracks from this building. Start here and click leftwards: https://www.flickr.com/photos/metrotran ... otostream/

(Flickr used to have a calendar-based navigation method... I miss that...)

Thanks, this is great. I really like rooftop gardens that are not too many stories up. Like this one on Nic on Fifth and also Brit's. Especially at night. Hopefully more are built. It would actually be cool if rooftop garden patios were put on top of the current parking ramps. Or put 1-2 story up covering a surface lot (although this may not be cost effective if they desire to develop the property in the future.

WCCO is about to do a story on this in the next few minutes (on TV). I'm sure it will be up on their website at some point.

Was in 150 Opus today and saw that they had put new carpets in the skyways and looks like the skyway to Nic will open very soon.

Was that platform ever mentioned publicly by MetroTransit before? Or did it just show up during construction?

There's a month's old presentation somewhere in the met council transportation committee page. I don't ever remember seeing any clues as to how the platform would actually be used.

So far this is the best information I can find regarding the side platform. It's on Page 3 from this document: http://www.minneapolismn.gov/www/groups ... 082937.pdf

"Metro Transit anticipates that additional platform area for the Nicollet Mall LRT station will be needed in the future for passengers when the Southwest LRT line is in operation. The existing platform is restricted to the center of the street, but is currently one of the busiest stations on the Hiawatha LRT line. Once the Central LRT line is in operation, the center platform will not be able to accommodate the additional passenger volumes from another line. Expanding to the south is not an option because the one lane street needs to be maintained for existing vehicle access to Gaviidae Common. Therefore Metro Transit is looking for side platform space on the north side of the tracks. As discussed with Metro Transit and the Minneapolis Public Works Department representatives in various meetings, space needs for the side platform, including width, length, and height, can be accommodated south of the proposed building without making major modifications to the development proposal. The walkway under the arcade would accommodate pedestrians not using the LRT system. Some modifications, such as raising the grade of the sidewalk to tie in with the level needed to board a train, will be worked into the design. No major issues between existing and future public transit infrastructure and the proposed development have been identified at this point that cannot be addressed, and the applicant is continuing to work with Metro Transit and the Minneapolis Public Works Department on these improvements and others in the public right-of-way."

Huh. According to Page 2 of that doc, a skyway over the station to Gaviidae was in the plans, at that time, at least. Of course, that's from 2011, before Neiman Marcus moved out.

A skyway would not be as big of an obstacle had they not designed that current station as they did. The tall metal poles block putting a skyway across unless the do a total station renovation to get rid if the steel structure that is currently there. Trying to get an elevator and stair case in there also would be a very tight fit from the skyway.
