Info regarding this new project at the bottom of article. They have a fence around the parking lot in preparation for the ground breaking. I am so happy to see one of these dreadful parking lots gone.

Ha. Todd Rhoades was my first design studio professor at the U of M's architecture school. I've always respected his design sense and this project seems to be a great addition to downtown.

Thats pretty cool.

I have been waiting for that project. Do you think mega bus will still use that adjacent lot for their stop?

Yep, for the time being at least. I saw them a couple nights ago. Better than on the street corner.

Well, at least this will fill a LONG vacant parking lot!

I'm obviously pro-getting rid of parking lots, but I'm pretty sure this isn't being built up to the street on the Chicago side.

This is a great project. Looks better than some of the higher end apartment projects going up. This validates my belief that good quality architecture is for ALL people, not just for the privileged. This will bring much needed housing and support for people with chronic mental illness issues. They are a very vulnerable population and are in dire need of more housing options.

This does look like a solid project. I'm anxious to see it break ground. I think it'll be a great addition to the neighborhood.

Yes they had a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month. I was by last week and it looked like they were digging.

Yes they are moving right along with this project. They are gutting the old building while driving steel pilings for the addition.

snapped a pic today of the work on RS Eden's new building. Great to see some building being done on this side of Washington.

I love the fact that this construction is happening on the other side of Washington, but I feel it's going to be a wall, blocking things off a little. Hopefully we'll see more development in this area to help tie this building into better once the stadium plans are unveiled and approved.

Not sure how this would be "blocking things off"?? The building will fill-in a hole that has been on that block for decades. It is not closing/blocking any streets.

Do you think developers are holding off on proposals until the stadium design is released in attempt to "match" and "tie in" the surrounding stadium area, or is there simply a lack of DTE residential demand?

I think it would be nice for developers to break the norm in exterior appearance of recent six story developments. Maybe this could be achieved by the stadium's architectural influence on surrounding areas!!!
