Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings

There is a great rebuttal of this tech by Alan Fisher of The Armchair Urbanist in which he makes the following points: - freight rail needs very strong couplers, as they take a lot of abuse - if these are used in local operations, they will not be compatible with manual yard switches - modern double...

Re: C Line - Penn Avenue North Rapid Bus

I was told by someone who should know that the chargers "literally melted." Now I understand that battery technology will advance, but for big, heavy vehicles like buses I have no idea why the FTA (or transit agencies in general) are unwilling to use trolley buses for new new starts progr...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)

If they don't build the north tunnel, the 21St Station will make a nice stop right by the beach, you could even market it as "take the train to the beach". However, I'm sure the Kenwood residents will not appreciate a large influx of people getting off here... and the beach has had a shady...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

Another question; why were Warehouse and Nicollet spaced so close? Station capacity? I've always assumed that its for two reasons: 1. Station capacity, just like you mention 2. Parking lot/ramp access: Between Nicollet and Hennepin on the north side (behind the Xcel building), there is a parking lo...

Re: Van White Memorial Bridge

Is there an opening date? I've seen lane paint, they must be pretty close right now.
At the bottom of the project page http://www.minneapolismn.gov/cip/all/WCMS1P-080728 it says " It is anticipated the road will be open to traffic by the end of August."

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)

Does anyone know how long the bike/walking trail between the DTE station and Cedar riverside is going to be closed for? I'm pretty certain it will be closed through most of this year. I don't know if the opening will be late this fall, or next year when the Green Line opens. Just don't hold your br...

It's official, the downtown St. Paul Macy's will be closing.
Store employees were to be told this week that the store will shut down in late March, according to sources who did not want to be named.

Ok experts! What is your predictions to when SW LRT will open? (Month Day and Year) should we start a forum "office pool bet" lol Since it will take the Central Corridor a full 10 years to open after Hiawatha's opening... I'm guessing with the expedited process, it will STILL take the Sou...

Here's an update that the Met Council posted for their upcoming meeting on Monday, September 24th. Re: Central Corridor LRT

Does anybody know if the plants growing between the tracks and the road in multiple locations are intentional? I've seen them in many places including near the Westgate Station. This site has a photo: http://lettherebelightrail.blogspot.com/2012/06/stuck-in-middle-with-you.html Are they there simply...
