Re: Target Center Renovation
Of course no one can say for sure what will happen, but that's probably an overreaction. The Twins played in the Metrodome for 27 years (1982–2009), and just wrapped up their 12th season at Target Field. I don't think many reasonable people believe Target Field is already approaching the midway poin...

Re: Target Center Renovation
Not that there's much room over there, but many cities get some synergy by locating their arenas immediately adjacent to their convention centers, allowing very large conventions to use the arena for events. This general idea, but for keeping the stadium generally right where it is now. We already ...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
What's being proposed is really pretty simple: Create a larger public safety department that includes the police. Here's what voters will be shown on the ballot: "Shall the Minneapolis City Charter be amended to remove the Police Department and replace it with a Department of Public Safety that...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
So what is the thinking on the charter amendment? I haven't researched it enough yet to say for sure how I'll vote, but when the Yes camp is stuck on the "but that's not what it really means" loop, it kind of feels like they already lost. The overall campaign has felt poorly run. Starting ...

I guess my point was just that MOA/MSP airport feel as much like the third prong to a Twin Cities triangle as anywhere.

Re: Latest Census Estimates and Met Council Projections
I’d argue that the airport and MOA anchor a pretty clear third major center in the metro, especially with it being connected by rail. And yet I also agree it’s not close to being equal with either of the two downtowns.

I think people we might be overestimating the number of families with children who want to live in an apartment on Nicollet Mall.

That’s interesting. If this arena is intending to draw any fans from outside the immediate neighborhood it would fit in much better around Allianz Field.

Re: Minneapolis Population / Density - General Discussion
I'm a runner, but the biggest things was the parks and our infrastructure. I realized why we rank so high in parks and how glad I am to be near the Grand Rounds and to be able to run around our lakes and the river. I also thought our infrastructure on averaged seemed to be better maintained, but we...

I can also confirm, anecdotally, that the county is reducing office space. My wife's department was always mostly remote, but now it sounds like they won't even have the option of going in anymore.

Is street racing actually associated with Black men? And does literally anyone like other people’s fireworks? Check out Nextdoor sometime and bonfires and fireworks aren’t as popular as you think. Ultimately none of that matters though. Street racing etc. is illegal because it’s a nuisance and extre...

But has that building changed hands? I'd be willing to bet that however many years ago the owner underwrote the building with a Victoria's Secret type tenant in mind and has been hoping against hope that they can get another one as it's the only way the price they paid makes sense. Their only other...

I happened to drive through Uptown today and it really is barren. Corner door to Calhoun Square is boarded up (under construction?), and most of the Hennepin storefronts between Lake and Lagoon are empty. It's not great.

My memory might be wrong, but I don’t recall the public having to pay any more than originally planned for the Vikings stadium, and I’m pretty sure everything going on now is insured. But again correct me if I’m wrong. I also don’t think you can honestly say that we could have done the Vikings stadi...

Some interesting stuff from the Superior mayor, including this on NLX: The long-planned passenger train linking the Twin Cities and Duluth includes a stop in Superior, and Paine said he will lobby Congress this summer to make ensure the service gets the money it needs. He also wants City Council to ...
