Civilian Shoveling Corps
Here's my idea: The Civilian Shoveling Corps. Or, more specifically, a city program that pays people who go out and take care of unshoveled sidewalks. So, it snows. Two days later, anyone with the MPLS CSC™ app gets an alert: Go for it. You head out to your neighborhood. See an unshoveled sidewalk? ...

Re: Minnesota Governor Election 2022
This is beside the point, but if Walz wins doesn't he have to be considered a pretty legitimate option for presidential candidate? I mean, he's an outstate Democrat, stable governor of a Midwestern state, national guard, only 57 years old, doesn't have a funny name like Hickenlooper. I'm convinced t...

Re: Forum Maintenance & Technical Issues
And we're back to normal. No idea why, but must have been to do with my browser. It wasn't the zoom in/out issue, though. I had tried that. Thanks for the tips!

Re: Forum Maintenance & Technical Issues
For real, am I the only one for whom the whole look of the board changed? All of the buttons are super small and everything is harder to navigate, but I can't find an option to change the appearance.

Re: Forum Maintenance & Technical Issues
A few days ago the forum started showing up on my computer with what appears to be the mobile version of the site. Did this happen to anyone else? Anyone know how to turn it back?

Re: Amtrak Empire Builder to Chicago
It's hard to keep track of everything, so maybe (hopefully) I'm wrong, but this infrastructure bill and Build Back Better look like they're shaping up to be Obamacare 2.0, where none of the good stuff takes effect until long after Democrats are voted out of office.

I wonder what our peak DIY yogurt shop saturation was, and how many we have left.

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
Overall a disappointing night in general. The big question now is, with the dust settled, whether Frey and the new council can get something done with policing. Reading left-wing Minneapolis Twitter last night there was a lot of sentiment like mplsjaromir's above. And I get it, to some extent. But t...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
But there's no coalition for immediately significantly reducing police levels. TBH there's not much of a coalition for reducing the number of police at all. In a September Minnesota Poll, 55 percent of people said Minneapolis *should not* reduce the size of its police force. That included 75 percen...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
If the Mayor and Chief were physically accountable at that moment and committed to hearing people out and seeing the confrontation off, what happened that evening and beyond would not have occurred. I don't disagree with this in theory, but IMO you're vastly oversimplifying the situation that weeke...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
Don't forget that defund the police protesters rallied outside Jacob Frey's apartment, and instead of ignoring them or telling them what they wanted to hear, he was straight about his position: On Saturday, Mr. Frey was pressed to state his position on the issue by protesters who had massed outside ...

There are a bunch of non-student apartments/condos at the Westgate station, which is technically in St. Paul but for all intents and purposes is Prospect Park.

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
I was thinking about this earlier, and Frey actually reminds me a lot of Justin Trudeau. Both came on as these fresh, young, charismatic faces, but their reputations took a hit and now they're just kind of trudging along by default. I thought Frey was a pretty good mayor for a healthy Minneapolis, b...

Re: Minneapolis 2021 Elections - Mayor, City Council, BET, Park Board
My official prediction: Strong mayor, yes on public safety and rent control, and Frey. This election is filled with contradictions and, frankly, no great mayoral candidates. I'd be surprised to see public safety pass, *and* a fairly unknown progressive activist elected to oversee it. However, I also...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics
I've been wondering what is being built out on the 27th Ave-adjacent part of 150 26th Ave SE as it seems like a possible new event space. I guess my curiosity will continue for the time being. I was just thinking the same thing today when driving by. Whatever is going in there just added a bunch of...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics
Oh, interesting. And here's the long-term parking plan. Glad it's not going to be a giant permanent lot. Running underneath both buildings will be a two-floor parking garage that will have 313 parking spaces that will be available to residents, office tenants and employees of the food hall. ... Park...

Re: Prospect Park - General Topics
Can anyone tell where exactly that building is going? The transformation of this area has been crazy, but the one random part of Malcolm Yards is the parking setup. The lumpy dirt lots feel very temporary, but this also feels like a concept that won't make it without a good amount of parking.

Anyone have a good argument for voting no on the strong mayor amendment?

Re: Target Center Renovation
Of course no one can say for sure what will happen, but that's probably an overreaction. The Twins played in the Metrodome for 27 years (1982–2009), and just wrapped up their 12th season at Target Field. I don't think many reasonable people believe Target Field is already approaching the midway poin...
