Re: Calhoun Square
I've only been to Republic once and really enjoyed it. The only reason I haven't gone back is because the only parking lot at Seven Corners charged me $13 for about three hours.

I wish you could "like" posts on this site.Just...overwhelmed by everything about that. Magellan is the name of the developer.

Re: 1016 Washington Ave. S.E. (Arby's site)
I didn't go to the U of M, but if it's anything similar there would be basically no demand for an Apple store because you can buy the same stuff at the university bookstore, usually for a discount, and for most people on their parent's charge.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Another option would be to designate certain roads surrounding the stadium for tailgating. Allow the cars to park diagonally and turn a street into a pedestrian mall, which is essentially is anyway. Certain areas of 4th St. could do this right now for Vikings games and hardly cause traffic problems.

Re: Vikings Stadium
Would the Vikings even own the space around the stadium on the Minneapolis site? If there was a surface parking lot there, who would get the revenues from tailgating?

Re: Vikings Stadium
Clearly an emphasis — or at least many of us hope — is that the tailgating setup at the new stadium is less car centric than what we currently have. In that case, a larger version of Rice Park would definitely be viable.

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
Is there really any "organic growth" by the Metrodome right now, though? I think it's kind of a stretch to count the Mill District, as nothing has really happened south of Washington to this point.

Re: Vikings Stadium
As I said in the "What will it take to develop DTE?" thread, I find it ironic that people there are proposing irregular parks while people here are deriding the public/tailgating space. The "gameday plaza" used for tailgating and this public 365-day space can and should be the sa...

Re: Vikings Stadium
Nasa, you are so single-minded about this that you aren't seeing the forest for the trees. It is without question that the Arden Hills site would have presented a better opportunity for tailgating; nobody disagrees. The purpose of building a billion dollar NFL stadium was not to facilitate tailgatin...

Re: Transit Crime
Some of the stuff in that story is pretty messed up. When I use the Hiawatha line it's usually from the Franklin Station, which isn't exactly in the nicest part of town either, but regardless I've never really felt uncomfortable or seen somebody getting beat up or anything.

Exactly. Building random destinations isn't what makes a city. A vibrant city develops its own destinations naturally.

Re: 222
To be sure, when dumberguy said 222 looks to be making great progress, was he not referring to the parking structure that has been in place all along? I went by this block on Sunday and don't remember seeing any significant above-ground structure outside of the parking ramp.

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
Why do you guys think there is some sort of pent up demand for more restaurants and bars downtown? You can't just create an entertainment district out of nothing.

Re: What will it take to develop DTE?
I'd really hope they can design a game-day plaza to accommodate 365 days of use. Given the amount of space it could make a much better park, in my opinion, than the smaller ones being described so far.

From my understanding looking at the map, it would be about the same distance from both, but Westgate looks physically a little closer whereas Prospect Park has a more direct route.
