Re: Nicollet Residences
By that logic, why stop at 35? Why not just built 1,000 stories?

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
The problem with that passage is that it assumes Trader Joe's is looking to build a new grocery store primarily for those in the immediate neighborhood who can walk there. Everything else aside with the design, Trader Joe's is clearly banking on drawing people from beyond that limited neighborhood, ...

Re: Nicollet Residences
First of all, this is nothing but conjecture about other people's money. Second, the people who were going to live in the first 27 stories of this 35-story building will still live in the first 27 stories of the 27-story building. Obviously everybody on this message board would have preferred 35 sto...

Re: Surly Brewery Site
I kind of feel like wherever this ends up being will be a letdown of sorts. The logistics of actually brewing a lot of beer just work against having it in a cool area. I live about a half mile from the U of M area site, and while it would be cool to have it that close, that's definitely not a "...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ
We're starting to veer off topic a bit, but in short I generally agree that a park there wouldn't be a great draw.

Re: Prospect Park Station - 2901 4th St. SE
What is the leading Surly site? Kind of a random location for a taproom, though I guess the area could change quite a bit in two or three years.

Should we have a mod change the threat title to avoid future angst and confusion?

Re: Xcel Energy HQ
Maybe I'm just confused, but in the rendering it looks like the big glass parts of the building would be along 4th Street, and I thought the proposed library park would include the block directly across 4th that is currently a surface parking lot? Or maybe I wasn't clear when I said "open up.&q...

Re: Prospect Park Station - 2901 4th St. SE
The one major negative for this station is that there is a big parking ramp diagonally across the street from where this building will be going (if I understand it's location correctly).

Re: Nicollet Residences
I believe I read that the Xcel building would only have 40 parking spaces, which seems quite low.

Re: Xcel Energy HQ
Looking at the renderings, the new Xcel building looks to be configuring itself to open up onto the new proposed library park there.

Re: Prospect Park Station - 2901 4th St. SE
That looks more like it's in Miami than an industrial wasteland. Optimistic for this project though. That could be a neat little node around that station if things work out.

Re: Trader Joes (Lyndale and 27th)
Maybe I'm naive, or totally off base, but doesn't the Wedge have a large parking lot and basically fit all of the same single-use building characteristics that are being derided here?

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
I've long thought that entire strip of Lake Street from Calhoun Square to Lake Calhoun has potential to be really cool, but right now the lack of unified retail and heavy car use makes it so uptown and the lake really don't feel connected at all.

It seems that the plan was always to sell ice cream from the shop, but for some reason (perhaps legal?) they did not want to publicly say that right off the bat?
