Re: Southside - General Topics

Just to be sure, should this discussion be moved to the downtown Longfellow thread? (Also is downtown Longfellow actually a thing or did someone just make it up for the sake of a thread here?)

Re: CHS Field (St. Paul Saints Ballpark)

Just out of curiosity I looked at the other Triple-A teams and the only comparable example where the major league and top minor league teams are in the same market is Seattle, where their Triple-A team is in Tacoma. Several others are pretty close, but like Worcester and Boston are pretty distinctly...

Re: Southside - General Topics

Ugly building, but losing a medical clinic probably not a win for the neighborhood, right?

Re: Crime

Coincidentally MPR has a big story today about progress since the June "defund the police" pledge.

In short, this is a mess with no end in sight.

Re: Uptown Retail & Restaurant News

Maybe I’m missing something, but the idea that Uptown is going to transform to a retail district catered toward small, independent, neighborhood businesses doesn’t make sense. Uptown is a shopping mall surrounded by new, high-priced apartments. It’s basically the template for the opposite type of re...

There is a sign on the old Izzy's window that says ice cream is coming soon. So there's that.

Re: University of Minnesota - General Topics

I was mostly kidding. The U suddenly has a lot of facilities for a women’s tennis and track team though.

Re: Stadium Village

Very much hypothetical here but I was thinking, if the U ever did decide to raze the Barn and build a new basketball arena / sports pavilion, where would you put it? The existing Barn location doesn't bother me, to be sure, but driving by yesterday I got to thinking about how big of a project that w...

I get that we need gas stations, but this little area would be very nice with something else on the corner there.

I believe it’s up to 14 floors now, seven on the podium and seven on the tower, if I counted right while running by the other day.

West River Parkway is open again as of Monday, at least until 34th Street, where there has been some underground project going on all summer. (Anyone know what they’re doing?)

Re: 2020 Presidential Election

Of course a lot can change, but I'd think Amy would be a shoo-in for governor when Walz is done. I also think ending an esteemed political career as a governor would be more appealing than being a cabinet official or senator in gridlocked Washington, though I realize others could reasonably disagree...

Re: George Floyd murder and aftermath

As I understood it from the reporting Friday night, didn’t they say they had the numbers but they were just initially deployed to the wrong places? One of the tricky parts about the TV coverage was that it was sometimes hard to get a sense of what was going on outside the two or three spots where th...

George Floyd murder and aftermath

This is being discussed in a handful of threads but it feels worthy of having a dedicated space for more general discussion. So here we go. Something I've been thinking about these last few days, as things continue to play out, is whether we might eventually look back at the local response last week...
