Re: Southside - News & General Topics
The scale of the new school is pretty big, too. It'd go from filling only the southern third of the block to taking up most of it, based on the rendering below. And at 700 students, the new school would be roughly the same size as Sanford, which is on a major road. This is in the middle of a ...

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image
I’ve said this before, but downtown Minneapolis is surprisingly lacking in tourist attractions. We have some nice restaurants and the riverfront, but there’s only one museum in the downtown core (Mill City). Limited shopping. Trip Advisor’s top 10 downtown attractions include city hall, the Foshay ...

Re: New Basketball Arena Discussion
I just don’t get how Indiana justifies this, to say nothing of the Bears themselves. The economic benefits will still go primarily to Chicago.

When was "Peak Recent Minneapolis"?
Obviously this is a loaded question, and I don't mean it to be.
This isn't to say that current Minneapolis is bad , but just that the 2010s were a booming decade with tons of development, major new stadiums and events, lot's to be excited about.
Now we're in a transition period, slower, figuring ...

Re: New Basketball Arena Discussion
What if we knocked down the juvenile detention center and some adjacent stuff, moved them into City Center, and build it on the Commons? Besides the current Target Center location, the Commons is the best fit for a new major event venue.

Has anyone looked at the proposals they put out the other day? I haven’t had a chance to dig in yet but curious how they look from a pedestrian perspective. Do they address the long brick wall along Kellogg?

Maybe this is our catalyst to finally close the missing link of light rail between the South Loop and Viking Lakes.

Re: Washington Square - 20, 100, 111 Washington Avenue S
I’ve always felt the apartment building just north of 20 Washington really ruins the area. It’s so disconnected from everything and negates the effect of having the Nicollet ROW there.

The Star Tribune had a feature about Kwik Trip last year that addressed why there aren't more stores in the metro area.

Re: New Basketball Arena Discussion
Did someone earlier suggest taking the juvie block and somehow tying into the Armory, a la Xcel and Roy Wilkins? No idea if any of that is feasible, but it could check a lot of boxes.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market
IMO what we learned from the pandemic is that 40 hours in the physical office each week isn't necessary for most jobs, but most companies operate better, onboard more effectively, and have better culture if there's some in-person time.

I don't follow St. Paul politics too closely, but I always thought Melvin Carter was the more popular of the two mayors.
