Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development

There is so much space to develop in this area. It’s probably best to focus on filling in University-Snelling and the former Midway Shopping Center strip mall first anyway.

The two new apartment buildings on Snelling across from the stadium are a huge improvement.

Re: Carbucks

That's an unexpected twist. Also, I just learned the Pioneer Press allows anonymous comments and they're as dumb as you expect. Lots of predictions of Starbucks bankruptcy and a rampant uptick in crime at this location due to "woke" employees. Lol.

Re: Rumors: A Historical Record of Mystery

It’s one of my great regrets in life that we never did this with retiredbanker.

Re: Twin Cities' National and Global Image

Wow! Minnesota beat California to make the final four in Geography King’s March Madness. Big, for those who follow. To close the loop on this, we swept past Hawaii in the final four to set up an anticipated championship showdown with Colorado, which swept North Carolina in the other semi. As expect...

Re: Dismantling Downtown Freeways

But that is quickly changing due to the green line. Remember the green line is about four blocks north of 94. The actual 94 corridor has a lot of stretches of this: https://www.google.com/maps/@44.9521691,-93.1354568,3a,75y,28.89h,86.17t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sN1tx-Ff9c3SukV8rVjZkiA!2e0!7i16384!8i8192...

Re: Dismantling Downtown Freeways

You also have to consider that much of the development adjacent to 94 isn’t super hospitable to urbanism as a result of the area being a freeway armpit for half a century.

I’m still very confused. The aerial photo is inverted right? So this site is on the south side of the street, east of Carbucks?

Re: Dismantling Downtown Freeways

IMO a freeway cap at Prospect Park wouldn’t achieve a ton either, especially for what it’d cost.

Somehow making a connection across 94 at Emerald would be nice, though.

Re: Dismantling Downtown Freeways

In regards to a Rondo land bridge, are there specific plans for how that would work? I was just driving that stretch today and notice the freeway trench there isn't very deep. It almost feels like you'd have to dig it way deeper, or else it'd be a random Rondo hill that wouldn't actually be all that...

Re: Hiawatha-Lake - Minnehaha - Downtown Longfellow

Kind of along these lines, but something else I thought of last time going through Minnehaha and Lake is that you could make an argument for having a more substantial George Floyd memorial here, and doing something more modest at 38th and Chicago. Obviously there are a lot of emotions involved and C...

Re: Hiawatha-Lake - Minnehaha - Downtown Longfellow

Was it ever an option to try to change the zoning (or whatever) to try to encourage more mixed use in the rebuilding here? Specifically the giant parking lot just north of Lake that had a Wendy’s and AutoZone. That space is begging for something bigger, and if so there would almost be a little urban...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

It’s interesting the Juut landlord would refuse to even negotiate. Must either be confident in finding a replacement, or big picture having those spaces occupied isn’t all that important to them. The latter seems more likely and is kind of a bummer.

Planned opening in May now, with several tenants now announced. Hopefully a reopening of Surly comes soon after. I saw they have concerts scheduled for the field there in August.

NY Times weighs in

Minneapolis actually has a notable presence in the drone community, if you want to call it that, from the company AirVuz.
