Re: Allianz Field and Snelling-Midway Development
Five years in, Allianz Field parking shuttle predictions were wrong, but more can be done Litter and speeding are still problems. On the other hand, fans are supporting local businesses within a large radius of the stadium. by Bill Lindeke Back then, the [parking] study sounded unconvincing, and in...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - News & General Topics
In this moment when boosters and mayors are mourning the loss of downtown vitality, at precisely the same moment when ice skaters are mourning the loss of outdoor ice in the region’s many parks, a marriage of the two needs might be the perfect thing. Why not create an ice rink, in the most public p...

They picked the Minnesota shape one. With the tweaks it’s better than the original version.

Re: Minnesota State Flag and Seal Redeisgn
I’ll be curious to see how much they end up changing in the final design. None of the finalists blew me away, but I was surprised at how much better each concept became after the minor tweaks proposed by the flag expert guy in that Star Tribune article.

Re: Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City has been named the preferred host of the 2034 Winter Olympics, which means barring something totally unexpected the Olympics will be going back there (and six years after LA hosts the Summer Games). Here's their venue plan. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GAHk82BXgAAWgwU?format=jpg&na...

Re: University of Minnesota - News & General Topics
Clarification: It's not just the Mix, it's the the Minnesota Innovation Exchange — aka "The MIX"! Seems like kind of a major project that kind of snuck past us here? According to the website there are three phrases that would redevelop three entire blocks in the heart of Stadium Village. P...

Amazing we didn't already have this thread! Here's another image that might make it easier to compare the finalists: https://images.axios.com/8UkVDP14wzCSwSVrSf2ED_a6du0=/0x0:1920x1080/1920x1080/2023/11/22/1700621919659.jpg?w=1920 Personally, I don't love any of the six finalists. I have a memory of Sid Hartman forever railing on the Shubert Theater getting public funding to move up Hennepin Avenue as reason why the state needed to step up and build a new Twins stadium.

Re: Xcel Energy Center
This might be the Royalston Station spot you mention, but there's a big parking lot behind Target Field (and adjacent to Royalston Avenue on one side) that I believe is the location I've heard speculation about.I don't know how they'd fit a stadium behind Target Center, frankly.

Re: Xcel Energy Center
It's only a matter of time before the Timberwolves get serious about a new arena — both with the condition of the Target Center and new ownership about to take over. On paper there's an argument for just moving them into Xcel, but in the real world that's hard to imagine. The big question will be wh...
