Re: Purple Line BRT (Rush Line Corridor)

The Best Buy project was so outrageous with the number of people it forced from their homes under threat of eminent domain, and there was that whole Kelo v. New London thing and the resultant state law here in backlash, that I get the sense cities are becoming extremely timid about using it. Even fo...

Or if you can't afford to buy effing toothpaste, you can make the choice to go get a job so you can afford to buy toothpaste, instead of making the choice to become a criminal and steal the toothpaste. Right now we don't have enough police and our criminal justice system isn't harsh enough that stea...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News

I'm certainly not against the idea of throwing every last criminal in jail where they belong. And my experience with Minneapolis police even before the George Floyd fallout was they didn't want to do their jobs- in particular more than one person told me the Minneapolis police implied to them that a...

Even if you feel strongly about not buying them, Walgreens would rather the rather lose the $10 profit they'd make selling you the items than lose the $90 value of the items to criminals.

Does anyone like shop at malls any more? I think it's been 10 years since I've been inside of one.

Looks like someone didn't want to sell their house https://i.imgur.com/ixQU4sW.jpg Windows- with the recent crime explosion in the metro it would seem ground floor windows into a parking garage would be a security risk- criminals could get in that way to pull an auto burglary, carjacking, or catalyt...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

It's crazy to me that 45% of people never come into the office even once per week. I've anecdotally heard of Target employees that come in 2-3 times a month. I wonder how they factor in to the Downtown Council's numbers. Not sure what's crazy about that. If I'm set up to be able to work remotely fo...

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar

Isn't it basically that St. Paul wanted a real light rail connection instead of nothing but a bus from the Mall and Airport to their downtown too now that Minneapolis had one? So they applied political pressure to get it done? Back before COVID disrupted commute patterns and our light rail got an un...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure

Underground streetlights are commonly 240 or 480 volts, but if there's a neutral wire available you can get 240 from the 480 volt circuits, which is within the range of standard "world voltage" (100-240) switching power supplies like a bicycle or scooter charger. Or 120 volts if it's a 240...

Re: Public Bathrooms

Ill answer the question-- nothing. There is no special public safety benefit of rest stop bathrooms, they are provided for CONVENIENCE. Which is what we are talking about here, in the city. So, is that why we call them "safety" rest areas instead of say "convenience" rest areas?...

A plain parking lot wouldn't encourage people to stop the way a nicely landscaped area with restrooms does.

Re: Public Bathrooms

Rest areas on rural interstates provide a public safety function in that they provide a place for fatigued drivers to get off the road for a while. Are people traveling around the city so fatigued that they're driving (or walking or bicycling) into buildings because we're not providing rest areas th...

I doubt you'd bet much support from the public and I'm not convinced this is going to improve things much. The revenue raised from pay toilets probably won't cover the costs of cleaning them and dealing with the issues of the homeless camping out and druggies shooting up. Meanwhile a lot of places t...

The tweaks don't seem to address the underlying constitutional issue though; if you take a picture of the motorist, the burden still shifts to the owner to prove that it wasn't them, and that's what was ruled unconstitutional so as the article hinted, the state would be sued if they enacted it. Chic...
