Re: Bloomington - General Topics
FWIW my parents told me that when I was a kid as we were driving by it, so if that's just a rumor it's been out there for decades.

Re: Hiawatha-Lake - Minnehaha - Downtown Longfellow
In the healthcare world I've noticed providers will lie and say "it's against the law" to shut down conversation when patients want them to do something that is either a contractual violation with the insurance company or they just plain don't want to do. Maybe banks saying "it's agai...

If that were the case, why are they building a Dick's instead of an apartment building for this phase?

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
I'm not suggesting that the developer is going to immediately turn around and propose a Hy-Vee in place of the apartments and medical office building, but that they'll just let the property sit vacant for another 30 years and then say "look, we couldn't build apartments, so may we please build ...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
With a significant caveat, staff is supportive of the proposed PDP as it meets the desire of the applicant to bring in Dick’s House of Sport now, but sets the stage for additional future development. This is kind of Hyvee 2.0, where KA wants to plop a typical suburban big-box retail store on an are...

Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
Regional malls that don't have a large entertainment component in rich areas seem to be doing slightly better than those in poor areas, but it seems everyone sees the writing on the wall. It's why Mall of America and Bloomington are desperately trying to cook the numbers to make the indoor waterpark...

I'm kind of wondering if there's really demand for anything remotely near that amount of ground floor retail or what industrial user would actually put up with a multi-level facility when they could have a one-level facility in any number of exurban industrial parks. But that's just me, I'm sure the...

Instead of burying the whole thing it would help immensily just to do it in the downtowns and the Snelling area.

Last time I checked MnDOT was in the business of facilitating mobility for people. Afte all they're the Department of Transportation, not the Department of Untransportation. Personally I would like not being rear-ended by a person zooming off the freeeway not seeing the first red light, being able t...

With the end of barge shipping on the river and Northern Metals being chased out of town, I can't imagine heavy industry and the railroads seeing enough future in the area to justify any kind of investment.

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I think part of the attraction is that a lot of the people in the outer ring suburbs are the type that would never ride a "bus", no, no no. But a "Autonomous Ride" would be OK. Kind of the same reason for the nice map lights and seats on the buses. It's not a "bus", it'...

Also with what it costs to pay even unskilled employees nowadays, unlike say a McDonald's you can operate car was with only one or two of them. And car washes have figured out they can be a lot more profitable, you buy a month to month subscription and it's hard to cancel and you don't use it nearly...

Twice as big as the existing inpatient buildings or in proportion to Duluth would be good guesses. Part of the original justificaion for bulldozing old inpatient buildings was with the switch to all-private rooms due to patient expectations and current standard of care, you could built private rooms...

Re: Amtrak: Empire Builder and Borealis (TCMC)
Would be nice if you'd be able to get to Wisconsin Dells and back in a day. Borealis doesn't improve the situation; the Empire Builders doesn't arrive unti 1 (even assuming no delays), and then leaves again at 6:45. What about the idea of an overnight train- you'd be able to do day trips to Chicago ...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
I'm not sure I'd characterize there as "zero effort being put in to make a transit-accessible neighborhood". The cities did two seperate studies that say that's what they want to happen, and rezoned the area to try to make that happen. It's just that private developers seem to hold zero in...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project
Eliminating the 535 has presumably made transit a lot more inconvenient for a lot of Bloomington. Used to have a stop two houses down from me, and the neighbor kitty corner to me would ride it every day, presumably to work. When they elminated the 535 I noticed he started leaving in his car every da...

Banks don't build big stone structures in the middle of town anymore, but they still seem to prefer their own buildings. Having your own distinctive building still gives the aura that "we're here forever and your money is safe with us" not "we're going to disappear as fast as the typi...
