Re: Bloomington - General Topics
It's also not really clear what their next step is. This started when the street was due for an overlay, and they cancelled it and instead started conversations about allowing the street to deterioate to "reconstruct", and then a complete redo at this point, but with the interem improvements shown ...

Option C has been selected as the preferred long term option for Bloomington Ferry Road. In the short term plans are to stripe off one of the lanes, buld bulbouts, remove the signals at 102nd and Verness, and build a HAWK at 102nd.

Re: Southdale Area - Edina
As a pedestrian I'd still rather go over or under six lanes than across four.
I think the main problem with vehicular operations there is there are 15 traffic signals in four miles, which works about to be about double for the recommended half mile spacing for urban arterials. County 42 the've ...

Remembering the housing proposal that didn't happen, it seems like so far we've had one person wanting sphaghetti and one person wanting tacos. And none wanting burgers where the city wants to sell burgers.

Well, if everyone i going into the restaraunt and asking for spaghetti and no one is asking for burgers, maybe they might do some thinking about their menu selections even though no one is arguing against their technical right to set their own menu.

Re: Tunnels!
I'm sure a cute, quaint little local neighborhood street instead of a "car sewer" serving Southdale, the hospital, and all the other businesses would work out well.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
Same reason why there was that short expressway section with that ghost interchange of what used to be 5 by 694. There were plans to connect the two with a freeway / expressway section mainly in the railroad corridor where Phalen Blvd is now, then an expressway continuing west along Como / the ...

Maybe we should have put the Vikings Stadium in Arden Hills (where we could have real tailgating again) to leave room for a new basketball arena on the Metrodome site.

I get the idea that people think we should be landfilling trash instead of using it to generate steam and electricity but I don't think we're going to be able to decomission HERC and build a new billionare palace there in the time frame that will satisfy the billionaires.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects
That said, I’m not looking kindly at the option that places the bike lane adjacent to the traffic, even though it’s behind a curb (option A). That’s because when winter comes, snow will just end up in the bike lane and experiencing Saint Louis Park winter sidewalk clearing, it’ll be 75% filled ...

Whatever people's take on Nicollet I agree that we're getting wildly inconsistant results with recent projects in the area. Things built right like the Cedar Avenue trailhead, or River bottoms trail or the France ave boardwalk, contrasted with things like making pedestrians walk on the road to the ...

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
So a smooth, wide MUP seperated by cars by trees and boulevard space isn't a gigantic improvement over a narrow, bumpy sidewalk right next to the street for slower riders?

Right now most bicyclists understandbly seem to ride on the sidewalks so I'm not sure how wider sidwalks and a full MUP are 'decreasing seperation".

Re: Bloomington - General Topics
I'd reckon most of the bicyclists in the city will find the design making things vastly better rather than worse now that they don't have to ride on pavement with nothing but paint between them and cars, or on a bumpy sidewalk with no boulevard space. Bicyclists include kids and families as opposed ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
Back in the 1980s before Mom learned how to drive so we'd use buses ocassionally, we'd always be excited when we got a white bus instead of a red bus because they were new and had air conditioning. My thought is they picked white to draw attention to the fact that they were buying brand new air ...
