Re: Uptown-LynLake-Wedge - News & General Topics

So, if businesses are moving closing anyway, can someone enlighten me as to what incentive they would have to lie and blame the crime problem (or difficulty of parking) instead of just being honest and saying they had lease issues? After all, you do see it all the time where there's signs "Lost Our ...

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT

To be fair, it's easy for Robbinsdale to see what a catastrophe for people in cars the Blue Line caused along Hiawatha and think a repeat could happen on Bottineau. Maybe the next thing is to do a traffic study.

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

My vague recollection is that local businesses were all gung-ho about the exit ramp to make it easy for people to drive to their businesses from the north, but they were substantially less enthusiastic about making it easy for people to get home once they had patronized their businesses. That and th...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)

Valleyfair was closed last year and no way am I going this year in the middle of a pandemic. But I've had season passes since 2008 and would go out there many times a season. I'm not saying transit is a good or a bad idea there, but I'd throw out the following observations and speculations: I don't ...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

*MNdible and Bakken are correct that once upon a time there was a plan to consolidate the 35th/36th ramps at 38th, along with a BRT station, and it did face substantial neighborhood opposition. But that was in the early 2000s, during what was technically a totally separate planning process. Plannin...

The boom in self-storage facilities has been noted before. I still wonder if it's people that want to buy a cute little condo in the North Loop instead of a place that actually fits their needs and they put most of their stuff in storage, or online sellers using the place for inventory storage, or ?...

Re: Minnetonka Area – General Topics

If you allow people from both types of units to use the amenities, then you have to make the amenities twice as big / twice as many. Which makes the entire project less feasible. Maybe the affordable units are smaller, and it doesn't work to mix large and small units in the same building. At least i...

Re: Orange Line / 35W@94: Downtown to Crosstown Project

MnDOT may have dictated the BRT choice, but what other options did they have? After the 1980s Billion dollars I-35E to Washington Ave reconstruction of I-35W with light rail was scuttled, the highway still needed reconstruction so they started doing pieces as they had money available. 76th to north ...

I like these quotes: "To me, segregating the housing is a much bigger sin that not having enough affordable housing,” said Joshua Sewall, the commission’s chair, during a review of the concept plan for the project. I guess having to live under a bridge because there's no affordable housing is superi...

I would request more effort to call it Bde Mka Ska. Not trying to cancel, just stating a desire. I don't have any problem with them renaming the lake as I agree it's not appropriate to honor Calhoun here. Just that if you're not from the region. "Bde Mka Ska" could just as well being some mosquito ...

Can they legally ask that question? I doubt they will remove the drive through unless they don't see a large drop in sales with it closed. If they do I can see them closing it if not this will get interesting to say the least. Also the officer is directing traffic which given the amount of traffic ...

Re: Carbucks

Considering the number of people that won't stop and buy stuff if a drive-thru is not available, more likely start asking potential employees if they're willing to work with a police officer on the scene and then not hiring them if they won't. Imagine if I had a job at Caribou and said I wasn't will...

Re: Pedestrian Safety and Infrastructure Improvements

The reason you see those curb ramps to nowhere is that in the early 2010s there was a settlement between MnDOT and disability rights groups where MnDOT would make all signals on trunk highways ADA compliant in 10 years. This got stretched out to the 2030s when the last of the pre-ADA signals will be...

In the least surprising news ever, a developer wants to build mixed use instead of offices in the southeast corner of American and 30th, https://i.imgur.com/nU1o5oF.png The initial phase, BCS 4, is 425 units, 622 parking spaces, 20,000 square foot retail. Also, a home office or computer room is kind of mandatory nowadays and none of these houses were designed with that in mind. Unless you want to shove the computer in a nook or cranny in the living room or down in the basement or something the home office swallows up a bedroom, meaning you only have ...

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Eliminating dangerous railroad crossings and building multi-use trails are always a good idea. And traffic may also increase on Foley if a full interchange gets built at East River Road like the local agencies want. Point taken though that there might be more worthy projects around. That's a problem...

It would seem to me the explosion of absentee investors is a big factor in wealth leaving a region. If someone sells their $250K house in Brooklyn Center because they're scared of crime, or if they have a third kid (I'd imagine more than three bedroom houses are uncommon in the area as they are wher...

I'm guessing they're doing the standard finish of most buildings nowadays and when it's time, will go out and buy five or six different small quantities of leftovers Home Depot has on sale in order to get enough material to finish one building.

68 Unit Affordable Housing complex proposed to replace a small 1960s vintage office building at 80th and Old Cedar. 86 parking spaces. I have no opinion on the idea of building apartments there, but the building itself is the "random pallets of Home Depot remainders" style of exterior finish I hate ...
