Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
You could piece together the land needed for an arena attached to the convention center at the corner of Grant & Nicollet but it would involve demo-ing everything east of Nicollet between 15th & Grant/2nd and the western edge of the convention center. That's probably a political nonstarter f...

Re: Riverview Corridor Not Streetcar
The most workable solution to the "how do we cross the river" issue would appear to be to advocate to the current MAC Commissioners why transit is good along with pushing who ever is Governor to appoint people to the MAC that support transit going forward

Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
I see how building next to MOA makes sense from a fans perspective but it doesn't from the owners view. ARod/Lore are going to want as much of the pre/post game revenue that comes from an events as possible something being next/attached to MOA makes basically impossible. If Wovles/Lynx do leave down...

Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
Going out to a greenfield location has been tried many times by teams & cities and almost universally those locations and arena's are disliked by teams and fans alike. Teams want to be downtown and DT's want 17000-ish visitors in them 100+ days a year

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
Whelp I guess aBRT is it, I've been pretty outspoken about my broad disappointment for the current route but it's still rough to see this cancelation of a corridor that really should have been rail based. Hopefully, but probably not, this decision leads to a few positive outcomes like Metro Transit ...

Re: Highway 252 Freeway Expansion
To me the reason this isn't a great idea is it makes it so much harder, if not impossible, for 94 between 394 and 694 to be removed and turned into a boulevard

Re: Riverview Corridor Streetcar
I remember quite a bit up thread someone mentioned the tunnel can't be widen either without significant opposition from the native community as they view the cliffs as sacred. So if you can't go around, over or under you have to work with what you've got I continue to think this project should be sh...

Re: 2024 Olympic Bid?
So the answer is not really but at the same time closer than we ever will be again I've always heard an "unnamed major Olympic sponsor that happened to be based in Atlanta" also got involved and basically swung the vote. But reading the story it sounds like it was over the second delegates...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
I agree with mattaudio on heavy rail/subway. If the entire line isn't grade separated the subway would basically end up being an high floor version of our current LRT lines and without that grade separation I feel like it's hard to justify the additional cost that a separate system would bring, both...

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Getting that tunnel done before the massive parking lot at 1st Ave & 5th St is developed is a must. Not being able to cut across that lot cut & cover would make a tunnel so much harder and more expensive. In my head the tunnel western portal is 5th St between 2nd and 1st cuts diagonally from...

Re: Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
1. This couldn't have been brought up at any point in last decade? 2. This is like a $3 billion dollar project and the MPB is worried about a pair a bridges that just rebuild for $15.5 million, I mean they aren't serious right? 3. Could the MPB legally prevent construction of the line or is this ju...

Not sure on how wise it is to close Centennial and this will only continue separate Elliot Park from DT but facility planning and urban frontage aren't things medical facilities are exactly known for There is a joke in there somewhere about only in America do you need a 1000 space ramp for a 500 bed...

With the switch to 2 car trains Metro Transit really needs to look into option on how to signal to riders roughly where the train will stop on the platform and where doors will be

Tweets and replies from Nick Halter about the exact thing I've been talking about in this thread. Rates are brutal for developers right now, material and labor cost are equally as bad and buildings aren't filled. That all adds up to developers pulling back from building DT right now https://x.com/ni...

Re: Nicollet 301 - 20 stories - 241'
The people & institutions who provide financing for apartments like this have a lot of options on where to put their capital. They have incredible sums of money to invest but it's not limitless and just as importantly they have to show returns to their investors. That means unnecessary risk is s...

Re: Nicollet 301 - 20 stories - 241'
Plus you have all the currently vacant office space in DT to compete with, according to a January Axios article it's roughly 22%. Now not all of that space is going to be Class A that this building or the other two would theoretically compete with. But some of that space would absolutely be in compe...

Finding an anchor tenet in DT MPLS right now is going be rough, that's a phenomenon not limited to the TC either across the country right now commercial real estate is taken a beating. There are many reasons for that including covid and the resulting work from home change. Now having a premier addre...

Re: Making Transit More Feasible/Less Intimidating for New Riders
I'm not sure that I'd consider a free Flo-Rida concert a major event... There were 35k+ people at that game, while I generally agree about Flo Rida, I think there would be a wide consensus that any event that brings in that number of people is a major event. As reference Target Center holds just sh...
