Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
There is a big political difference between telling just MPLS to get bent and telling MPLS, Robbinsdale, Crystal & Brooklyn Park to get bent.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis General Discussion
Warehouse District Live flopping and getting dunked on relentless (and rightfully) probably didn't help the full-time pedestrianization push. Even if there really isn't a good reason to keep it open to traffic in the first place, except for the TC block for Uber drop off and Lowe's porte-cochère ...

Re: Xcel Energy Center
I'm doing this from memory so I might get details wrong but this is more or less the story of the TC. Harv & Marv, the original owners of the T-Wolves, made their money in health clubs and when they went to build the TC in the late 80's instead of an experienced sports architect they hired the same ...

Re: Xcel Energy Center
I think the argument to go down to 1 arena is absolutely reasonable one to make but there are certainly trade off to doing that, including things like less than ideal sight lines, not great court/ice quality, atmosphere, etc. but also things like available dates disappearing very quickly

Re: Green Line Extension - Southwest LRT
Thinking more about an extension to Shakopee, it's about 30 minutes from Eden Prairie Town Center to Target Field. Roughly you are looking another 4.5 miles to Valley Fair, 6.5 miles to Canterbury & 10.5 miles to Mystic Lake. Absolute best case is like 38 minutes to VF, 41 to CD and 45 minutes to ML ...

I guess I'm missing what everyone wants Ramsey County to do? Try again and spend another 10 years and millions of dollars trying to rework a plan that they were already told no on? They tried to get something positive done but were told no by the community & partners, okay, so they moved on and ...

Re: Stadium Village
The Phase 3 redevelopment of Dinnaken House makes no sense to me. The building is just 35 years old and the exterior still looks pretty nice. Why tear down a decent supply of student housing when you can develop around it on the rest of the block? What is so important that it must go on this ...

That was my exact reaction, pretty middling and meh based on what was previously shown.
I hope the city pushes Mortenson & the U to release more of what they have planned for phases 1.2 and 2 as shown on page 5 of the application which also shows the U still has some land to buy on the Sterbs ...

Re: Public Transit News / Current Events (MN only)
I'm not sure the exact timeline but could the decrease be attributed to the ongoing efforts to improve behavior LRT? Basically every piece of anecdotal evidence mentioned is that behavior on both lines are headed in the right direction, still not perfect but better. It seems plausible to me that a ...

Whenever the next apartment cycles starts ripping I wish I already had equity in any of the remaining small scale student housing along 15th or 4th. Especially on the 5th between between 14th and 15th
That is also a monster and I don't see it winning any architectural awards this coming year

Re: Future of Graco Campus
Even if the 2050 Comp Plan changes the zoning & built form designations to allow for high-density residential, it seems that overlay districts could really limit what can be built on much of this property. Everything west of Ramsey St is within the Shoreland Overlay and Mississippi River Corridor ...

Re: Future of Graco campus
This really shouldn't be that hard to figure out, Graco picks a master developer who also makes a deal for the remaining parcels along Sibley & 8th. Master developer sells the Park Board gets a nice strip of land along the river for a trail and park. Build a super walkable urban village that's uses ...

Re: Northern Lights Express
I think that's unfair, there are people who care deeply but there simply isn't enough true believers. Then layer in astronomical construction cost, mediocre time savings, self interest, a limited political base and scarer funds it all adds up a cocktail that makes rail based transit facing hurricane ...

Re: Root District - Farmers Market / Royalston Station
I've always thought the double block bounded by Hennepin, Lagoon, Humbolt and Lake would be the perfect spot for a KC Live style spot here. Keep the Uptown Theater at the NE corner, add a complimentary theater at the SE corner, tear down the 2 story retail building in the middle leaving it as the ...

Re: Regional Rail in Minnesota
A rail connection to Rochester needs to be viewed as the first step in a HSR line to Chicago. There should absolutely be a regional component to any line but it needs to be envisioned and built to a true HSR standard, ideally 200 MPH.

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics
I really like idea of using of focusing on 5th but to me the Alliance Bank Building is the one that needs to go, including the awful bridge/parking extension over Cedar. Rebuild the missing skyway connections along Cedar & 6th then leave the block as a very simple grassy park. Work on improved ...

Re: Saint Paul - General Topics
I think it's way to easy too blame DT STP struggles strictly on 1 bad landlord. While he almost certainly does have an outsized influence on where DT STP is at, he isn't the only cause. Solely blaming Madison Equities leaves out a lot of context of larger economic forces outside of anyone's control ...
