Re: Suburban Malls and Associated Retail News
Any idea what the retail vacancy rates are in the NE 'burbs? Just near Maplewood there's the old K-Mart, CC, and it doesn't sound like Myth is long for this world. Last I was in Maplewood Mall there were a number of empty spots and I've not seen many customers in that Macy's for a few years. The str...

Re: Does ADA compliance make us less safe?
Mulad, thanks for the req on the Snelling document. I've been slowly going through it but keep getting distracted on other stuff. Amazing amount of good information in there.

Does ADA compliance make us less safe?
Wasn't sure if this should be under another topic or not. Anyway... In several discussions with traffic engineers over making crossings safer, primarily for bicycles, but also pedestrians, I've heard numerous times "we can't do that because it conflicts with ADA requirements." A lot of thi...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
I'm always surprised at how inconvenient cyclists think a quarter-mile detour is. A bit of perspective. For the average person riding about 12 mph this will be about an extra 60 seconds assuming no additional delay due to increase in grade, additional cornering, loss of momentum, etc. I would guess...

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure
Long article about cycle tracks in momentum mag http://momentummag.com/features/the-rise-of-the-north-american-protected-bike-lane/ I was a bit surprised and disappointed that Angie seemed to approve of the NACTO Design Guide which supports such poor and dangerous designs as bike boxes and combined...

Re: Best/Worst Retail Centers in Twin Cities?
Matt, I somewhat agree, although I'd think that there are some that are much worse than average. But yes, more importantly, what centers are good or relatively good? What are the best examples in the Twin Cities?

Re: Traffic Signals
I wonder how many of our stop signed or signalized intersections would function much better as roundabouts? But that's another discussion... I don't expect beg buttons to disappear too soon, at least not in time for numerous projects coming up in the next year or two. So, is there a button placement...

Best/Worst Retail Centers for bikes/peds?
What do you think are the best and worst retail centers or city centers in the Twin Cities for pedestrians and people on bikes? Any with very promising plans?

Re: Interstate 694
For NB 51/Snelling to EB 694 you just went up and did a u-turn at Cty F. We did that several times each week and it was rare that there weren't others doing it at the same time. Taking Lake Johanna Blvd over to Lexington and Lex to 694 is a pain and I'd guess has added a fair bit of traffic to that ...

Re: Interstate 694
http://www.dot.state.mn.us/metro/projects/694expand/pdfs/layout.pdf A couple of questions for those smarter about these things. - There appears no ramp for NB 51/Snelling to EB 694 ?? - No ramp for WB 694 to NB 51/Hamline ? - No ramp for SB 51/Hamline to either direction of 694. SB51/Hamline to WB 6...
