Re: Eastlake Craft Brewery (Midtown Global)
Looking forward to them opening. Any brewery that says specifically they're going to brew lagers is good in my book. Not enough micro-lagers out there. Everyone is still on this hoppy-ale craze...

Re: Minneapolis Capital Long Range Improvement Committee (CL
Please for the love of urban planning, we need UrbanMSP-ers stacked on this committee. The meeting times suck but if you work downtown, apply. I totally agree with twincitizen that old farts need need not apply.

Re: South Minneapolis Burglary
I checked out the crime map (burglaries/robberies) in my old neighborhood in Chicago (Division/Milwaukee aka Ukranian Village) for the same time period as Corcoran/Standish. About a 1/3 less. I did have a drive-by shooting literally across the street the first week I moved in but still...

Re: South Minneapolis Burglary
let's not pretend effed up stuff doesn't happen in the suburbs. occurrences are probably just a frequent in comparison to it's density, and there are a lot of "unsuspecting" people out there. My parents who live in Maple Grove have had a number of robberies in their nice neighborhood this...

Re: South Minneapolis Burglary
Be vigilant about securing your property. The lack of concern for basic home security among my neighbors is both frightening and reassuring. At least thieves will target their homes and not mine. I agree. Just last night looking down the street, none of my neighbors had their exteriors lights on. N...

South Minneapolis Burglary
Thoughts on South Minneapolis spike in burglary? http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/268547312.html . Lots of garage break-ins, but also groups of armed men breaking into homes with people around. Kind of crazy. I know the police are expanding beats in precinct 3 but I think more should be ...

Re: Nighthawks (38th & Nicollet)
This is turning into a nice corner. Wish the City would've improved pedestrian infrastructure with some bump outs when they reconstructed the street last year. Eh I can dream right? Is the city still "testing" bump outs?

Re: Grocery Stores
While I like Cub and Target for non-perishables, Seward Co-op is King of the Co-ops IMHO. I'll be less than a mile from their new store on E. 38th St when it opens! I can't bring myself to step foot in a Rainbow, the one at Minnehaha/Lake is not a pleasant place to shop. I would welcome Hy-vee takin...

Re: Southwest LRT (Green Line Extension)
the sw corridor is perefectly suitable for light rail. we have to think regionally. this line is no different than lrt built in the denver or salt lake metros. go look at you tube video of lines in these other cities. lots of suburban routes in lower density areas with the prospect of redevelopment...

Re: Minneapolis Park System
A sound barrier would be pretty controversial, placing a visual wall between the sculpture garden and the park is a different level of obstruction than the multilane mess traffic mess. Can you even see the sculpture garden from Loring Park? The garden side has rows of trees (probably to block the v...

a) Why on Earth, in 2014, is [Witch's Hat Water Tower] park such a dump? Not sure if you've noticed, but Minneapolis Parks and Rec generally does a terrible job of maintaining its facilities. Have you been through Loring Park recently? The supposed crown jewel of the parks system? Just a bunch of c...

Re: Minneapolis Park System
On a related note, why isn't the Mississippi River gorge more accessible south of the city? There are some unpaved trails that veer off the parkway and there's that beach used by rowers. But I've been wondering why there aren't trails with views of the river or access. I understand it's a national p...

East 38th Street & 38th St Station Development
So the Marathon Gas at 2325 E 38th St recently closed. They only accepted cash, so no surprise. Anyone know how likely this is to get redeveloped? I know gas stations can be a problem with the underground tanks. Thoughts?

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)
What I'm trying to say is that I don't want to wait an hour for a train and while I appreciate that it runs 24 hours, Chicago's train run at least every 20 minutes until ~3:00 AM. I understand it's not Metro Transits responsibility to make sure people don't drink in drive but having a more frequent ...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha LRT)
Why do the trains only run every hour after 12:30 AM? I think on the weekends they should run every half hour (or more) until the bars close. I often take a train downtown and have to cut the night short, which is usually fine considering I'm becoming an old man. However, this weekend I'm going to a...

Re: Stucco (Portland Cement) Houses
Thanks for the input. It's good to know it's hardwearing, but I still don't like it aesthetically. Reminds me of the neo-tudor style homes of the 1970-80s. On a side note I think a lot of the revivals of traditional styles negatively affected my opinion of the authentic homes...

Re: Stucco (Portland Cement) Houses
I didn't know we have so much more stucco than other places. Some houses, at least, have had their clapboard either replaced with or covered over with stucco. One such covered-over house is in the Wedge and the new owners used NRP funds to restore the original clapboard exterior. That's a good poin...
