Re: Superior Plating site
no churches in this immediate area and I havent heard about any significant NIMBY backlash on this project yet I don't think you will either. In fact, everyone that I have spoken with in the neighborhood is thrilled that the site is finally being redeveloped as it was an eyesore for decades. I have...

Re: Minneapolis Post Office
And the lobby is basically the only historic interior space of a building that is absolutely enormous. I don't see that there would be any problem preserving it.

Re: Downtown East Project (Ryan Companies / Wells Fargo)
Could be that they will have shuttle elevators just to access the tower floors. Not the most convenient arrangement, but other office buildings downtown have similar arrangements.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
So do big box retailers like Home Depot have urban concept stores (like City Target), or is that NY store just a one off thing that they did just because it's New York?

Re: Nye's Polonaise Room - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
It will be northwest of the church, more north than northwest even. Shadows are hardly a real concern. But a looming blank wall I can see as unsightly, there are opportunities to make such a wall less plain. Plus the church's current view of the back of Nye's is hardly a thing of beauty. I do think...

Re: Alatus St. Anthony Tower (Washburn-McReavy Site)
Could that box-like thing in the rendering actually be the existing St. Anthony Athletic Club? The size looks right. Maybe they decided to retain and re-face it.

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
Such drama... yes, the Duval proposal was exciting and cool, and it would have been wonderful it had gotten built, but this hardly constitutes the end of life as we know it. As far as maintaining the Mall's stature as a destination, how about more retail - that's what it needs more than anything

Absolutely true. We would never have reached this point if Diane Hofstede was still representing the ward.A committed council member probably helps though.

Re: AC Marriott Hotel (401 Hennepin Ave / Andrews Hotel site
you couldn't be wronger..the myth of "teardownapolis" as promulgated by our stupid local media. it's as if this was the only city in the united states that tore down buildings in the 50s/60s. No, but we've certainly continued. What about buildings like the Conservatory and most of the fir...

Re: Soo Line Building Apartments - (501 Marquette Avenue)
The big difference is that the Soo line had virtually all of its original interior fabric removed long ago. Village Green may have done a tacky job, but they didn't destroy anything. Is the Soo Line a historically protected building like the P-E is? Maybe that had something to do with it?

Re: Soo Line Building Apartments - (501 Marquette Avenue)
Gaudy lobbies seem to be Village Green's thing. Take a look at their Randolph Tower Apartments in Chicago: http://yochicago.com/is-this-chicagos-most-visually-striking-apartment-lobby/26203/ I suspect that they may be looking at this lobby not as a timeless piece of architecture, but rather in the w...

Re: Nicollet Hotel Block
I love how everyone obsesses about downtown Minneapolis building height (and the lack of) as if it was connected to some kind of deep seated civic inferiority complex. Doesn't it really boil down to economics? If the market could support taller buildings downtown, someone would build them. By the wa...

Aside from the reference to the Internet, it sounds like it could have been written by the president of the Junior League, circa 1900. (the original comment)

Re: Downtown Office Market
After walking in St. Paul last week I figured out why so many of the buildings designed and or built in the late 60's and early 70's had the gun slit windows. After walking by the Federal Courthouse which has the gun slit windows on the lower levels, They were design for safety reasons due to the m...

Just recently in Chicago they moved this very large house and it's adjacent coach house one block at a cost of 6 million.

Re: Nye's Polonaise Room - 100 block of E Hennepin Avenue
...or you could keep the corner building where it is and move the three story building over adjacent to it. That would free up most of the parcel. I love the way we're discussing moving masonry buildings around like they're furniture.

Re: Downtown Retail News
If every development was as well designed as the IDS Crystal Court, retailers could be on the street level and still be visible and easily accessible from both the skyway and the street.
