Re: Bassett Creek Valley Redevelopment
I believe Shelby Commons is actually using the parcel north of Glenwood, and east of the highway overpass, marked on the map above with the red 'pin.'

Re: Southside - News & General Topics
Only the NE triangle is private property - the SW portion of this site is still public right of way (formerly a street) and would have to be sold to a developer to get a larger redevelopment site. Could be a great positive outcome from the simplification of the Cedar / Franklin / Minnehaha intersect...

More accurate than businesses from Blaine to Shakopee claiming Minneapolis as their address, I suppose.

Re: Role of Visitors and Spaces for them in Cities
I think a 'light' version of Open Streets would do really well here. Closing the street would help deal with the bike/ped pinch points, and open up space for music, food trucks, and other programming. It's not hard to get to from Northeast and Downtown. I'm guessing this is one of a few riverfront p...

Re: City Club Apartments - 1000 Marquette Ave (Handicraft Building)
I've never noticed a correlation between living in big houses and liking Minnesota winters. It's the people who get outside to Wirth Park or their local ice rink who seem to love winter. There's also indoor soccer, indoor rock-climbing, broomball, basketball, libraries, movies, bowling, concerts, et...

Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
I think more bike racks along Washington would certainly help. Their primary bike parking is 14 spots around the corner from the entrance. The racks in front of Jimmy Johns are nice, but for TJ customers, they have an 'around the corner and down the block' feel to them. I can only eat so much, so ho...

Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
Good suggestion. I talked to them this morning when I visited the store. The store was almost empty, and the bike parking was about 1/3 full, suggesting that it's used by a mix of employees, non-customers, and customers. I mentioned the rings that the City can add to parking meters as an easy way to...

Re: East End / Thresher Square / Trader Joes - 713 Washington Ave S
Went yesterday and the bike racks were full, had to wait (about a minute, not the end of the world) for another customer to leave before I could lock up. Luckily at $100/rack +/-, this should be an easy problem to solve. I was a little surprised too that there wasn't any bike parking along Washingto...

The developers are aiming to close by end-of-year. Standard caveat: closings with multiple sources are complex, and schedules can shift by a few months.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
UrsusUrbanicus, the 330 dimension is for the private parcels only. Around the block in question, the public right-of-way is about 80 feet wide, and includes streets & sidewalks. Silophant, why not more than one tower per block? Asked another way, would two 20-story towers be more welcomed by nei...

FWIW, a city block measuring 330 feet x 330 feet is roughly 2.5 acres.
