Re: Plastic Bag Ban
While a paper bag weighs more, I'd be willing to bet that people recycle them and a vastly greater rate, but thats besides the point.... I think the real benefit is actually in getting people to be conscious of these issues and to ultimately reduce the usage of "disposable" items like that...

Re: Plastic Bag Ban
Paper will still exist, and hey, you can buy garbage bags separately.
On a higher level, we are so disconnected from the consequences of our consumption and the stuff we throw away... anything that makes us think twice about it & reduce waste is a good thing, imo.

If done right, this has the potential to be very very cool.

Re: MN Secretary of State Election
Fmr Rep Jeremy Kalin is in. Surprises me, I had sort of assumed he'd given up on politics for good.

Winkler says he is no longer considering and won't be running. Unclear if its related to the "uncle tom" business.
Rep. Hilstom, however, is:

Wow, didn't expect that he would drop out *completely*.
Also, he is not seeking re-election to 9th ward either

Re: Mayoral Race
Question: has anyone ever actually based their vote on which candidate was endorsed by x caucus? I mean, as someone touched on earlier, if someone is endorsed by the sierra club, or Emily's list, etc, does it actually make a difference with anyone, do you think?

Re: MN Secretary of State Election
Eeek.
I like Rachel because she really isn't that partisan and has actually worked with election administration first hand. I would hate for it to go to a relatively high profile legislator simply because they have the ability to fundraise.

Re: Mayoral Race
“@smckenzie21: Stonewall DFL, LGBT & friends caucus of the state’s DFL, endorses Mark Andrew for #MplsMayor”
This surprises me. Andrew over Hodges, who was huge in the vote no campaign early on, and Schiff who would be the first gay mayor himself? Hmmmmmm.
