Re: The Amp House (3255 Garfield)
This goes before the planning commission Monday, January 11 at 4:30, City Hall room 317. They are proposing 4 units and a coworking space in the existing building, and a detached three car/12 bike garage facing the alley on the north half of the lot. One 1-bedroom, two 2-bedroom lofts, and one 2+ be...

New windows on the retail bays facing Central. I took a picture but am stymied by having to upload it externally to post here. Maybe next time.

Re: The Amp House (3255 Garfield)
To bring this back to this project in general, this meeting was as NIMBY as it gets. I understand it's a loaded term, but people literally said at the meeting "this is a great project for elsewhere in Minneapolis, just not here." I assume the developers knew this would happen and can laugh...

I think it was a rail spur?Yes, that too! How odd.It would also be interesting to know the historical weirdness that created the little 128 sf sliver of a lot that's owned by Timeshare.

Re: Lake & Nicollet Redevelopment (Kmart site)
Elizabeth Glidden is speaking about reopening Nicollet at the Lyndale Neighborhood Association meeting TONIGHT at Painter Park! 6:30-8:00
Neighborhood is also voting on the AMP House aka the Garfield Aquarium redevelopment. Sensible urbanist perspectives are highly welcome in a sea of NIMBYs.

It looks like they're doing foundation work. There's a 3 foot wide moat around the base of the building.A retail conversion of this site was posted a while back.

Re: The Amp House (3255 Garfield)
This is going before the neighborhood on Wednesday, November 4, from 6:30 to 8 at the Lyndale Community Center (36th/Nicollet). Because this is Minneapolis, it's likely to be controversial so we need as much support as possible for what is really a pretty modest project. Bring your friends! Btw, the...

That white brick could turn out to be super sharp. Certainly nicer than brown stucco. Also, I'm totally in love with the White Brick. super classy and different.

www.urbanize.la is the best resource for all of the new projects popping up all over LA. It seems like every week there is another announcement for a new stick or tower project replacing parking lots or squat auto-oriented buildings. At the same time a number of midcentury and googie gems are gettin...

I think the roll-in bike room with separate entrance is a huge deal... have any been proposed before?
The gabled roof is kind of lame and a little too 90's po-mo looking for my taste, though I do appreciate the brick facade up to the height of the adjacent building.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Retail News
So do big box retailers like Home Depot have urban concept stores (like City Target), or is that NY store just a one off thing that they did just because it's New York? There is a pretty neat two-level urban format Home Depot in Lincoln Park in Chicago. First floor is day-to-day necessities like li...

Re: Superior Plating site
Hot damn, this makes me happy. If only the rest of the city realized they could rise up and demand better development for their neighborhoods and that the developers might actually listen! A committed council member probably helps though.

Nicollet Bus Garage
Looks like they are adding a second story to the office portion of the Nicollet bus garage, over the entrance facing 31st Street. Does anyone know what is going on? I couldn't find info on Metro Transit's website.

Yes.Or the majority posting on the forum and those in control of the forum are alienating the lesser voices. It definitely doesn't operate asa majority rule minority rights type situation as is and seems to be going further from that now.

Re: 1500 Nicollet Half Block
This is also a good opportunity to build a land bridge along the west side of Nicollet across 94 and reintroduce some continuity to the streetscape, taxable parcels, etc. Especially if there is some street and bridge reconfiguration work going on with the streetcar project.

-1I'm thinking the retail bays and the density are huge gains for the neighborhood, and I don't think the building is nearly ugly enough to outweigh all that
Keep on filling in them parking lots!
