Re: 330 South 12th
At this point, we're badly off topic, and mostly just arguing about semantics. Pittsburgh has a very impressive, dense downtown, as do a number of other US cities besides the big three. My intent was not to defame them. Carry on. Sorry :| Didn't mean to get us so sidetracked. Anyway, I was thinking...

Re: 330 South 12th
You're more than entitled to your opinion, even if I'm not sure how you got it. Pittsburgh only has three surface level parking lots available downtown for development-- one on Grant, one on 4th, one behind the Human Services Bldg. by 1st Ave. Cincy I admit has more, but not nearly to the degree of ...

Re: 330 South 12th
There are many many urban areas where building horizontally is not feasible. You can only build tall. Minneapolis is a rare exception where we still have the luxury of space. Perhaps worldwide there are many areas where this is true, but in the US, I'd suggest that there are really only three such ...

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
Looked to me like there was a similar error with both Carondelet and PPL's project in St. Paul....?
Anyway, a good list, chi-bus. Really brings the scale of this apartment boom all together....I mean, 11,000 units? That's insane. Am I the only one that thinks that that's insane? (not in a bad way...)

Re: Transit Crime
240 robberies or assaults a year is more than 1 every couple of days. Given how often I rode the lighrail and boarded or got off at that station, it surprises me that I never experienced or witnessed anything like that. Thoughts on the classical music bit: they do the same thing at the Ancient Trade...

^^^Thank God they're fixing the Wash Ave Bridge. We've known it was in trouble ever since MNDOT took inventory of bridges statewide-- before 35W collapsed, I believe? I'm surprised there wasn't more impetus to fix it after 35W collapsed, but I guess waiting for the LRT is a reasonable excuse....

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)
Pittsburgh has it, too, and it has always confused/scared me because there don't appear to be any traffic signals to tell drivers when it is safe to go on the tracks vs. when they need to yield. Then again, Pittsburgh's "light rail" really only ever goes "trolley" speed, and it s...

^^^Part of the city's 2025 Vision, but the idea of the park, I believe, even predates that. I don't know where they are at with the park. Was it somebody on here who posted the link about Hennepin Avenue recently? Certainly, the city is kicking the tires around on this stuff, but they wouldn't be ab...

Re: Park Vista (2nd St S & 11th Ave S)
I agree-- it will definitely stretch the skyline in that direction. Not that it's tall, but it'll be much taller than its neighbors...
I think it will look especially awesome from the other side of the river, Hug in the Guthrie, and anchor the skyline a little!

This is the only "render" I remember ever surfacing, courtesy of our very own minnescraper: http://minnescraper.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/phpshuOQTAM.jpg Looks a heck of a lot more sleek, and-- frankly-- attractive than this new render. Of course, it's impossible to tell what the mate...

Re: 350 North Fifth Street
I agree with this as well. How are the towers awkward? I'm not in love with the dead plazas/lobbies but the buildings themselves look very nice. And they fit great in the spot, IMO. If those renders are any indication, those plazas will be daaarn busy! Seriously, though, if there's something ...

Re: 350 North Fifth Street
I guess I'll go out and say it: I think these look awkward and out of place here. With that thinking we wouldn't have the IDS tower. It is good to have discussions about a project (that is exactly what this forum is for), but I am really surprised about the negative feedback. Adding density and rem...

Wow, I took a nap on this one. Looks great, and in case anybody is still wondering, I am 100% positive this is not an old render from Twinsville.

methinks they could have waited until their new housing was underway to kick these people out. Methinks you're correct. And, do they have housing that they are developing in the works, or....? I got the impression that the $3 million commitment to affordable housing development was sort of a token...

Re: Westminister Church Parking Lot
It seems to me that it would be more ethical for the church to use that $3 million, partner with a private developer (and the city???) and get something built on the fly and give these residents priority in a new building. Seems.....wasteful? to raze people's homes for a parking lot. What's that Gan...

This is a good project....and presumably has a good chance of moving forward if the preservationists are on board? Or, is it already in progress?
I think Lileks has a write-up on this building on his website....I'll see if I can find it...

I don't know if this flew under anybody else's radar, but apparently the same architects are planning a revamp of International Education's building on the corner of Hennepin and 8th-- 55 units of apartments in the unused upper floors (the building is about 8 stories). Should we start a thread in th...

Re: Xcel Energy HQ
So by creating a second sidewalk system, you're cutting the vitality of the street level sidewalks in half, well below the threshold of activity needed for some businesses. So you're left with super chain fast food in the skyways, or things that are open from 8 am to 1 pm. Oh, I agree with you, no ...
