Re: Bicycle Infrastructure.
Franklin could use some serious work between the light rail station and Bloomington Ave. Even driving it's an abominable hell hole. I live right near the light rail station, and I might be much more willing to take my bike up the street to Aldi if it wasn't so inhospitable. I did the walk once, and ...

I can't imagine Winter is a good time for heavy excavation with our weather, so if they're going to start, they better start soon.

Re: Southwest LRT
I wonder what this means? That article says it will pull it past Congressional gridlock, but what say does Congress have at this point? Is MAP-21 that different that Congress gets a say in what does and doesn't get funded?

Re: Bicycle Infrastructure.
What's wrong with 10' travel lanes, or what's right with them, since there seems to be a pretty strong difference of opinion here.

Re: Target Center Renovation
I recall during RT's hail mary to keep the stadium out of Roseville or wherever, he proposed a reuse. It came in at less money and less time than the suburban proposal, but he also floated the 3 sites for a new stadium as well, and we see where that all went.

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)
Yeah, I'm pretty sure those video ads would be illegal as hell, because they're so distracting. Aren't digital billboards illegal in some places, even though they're not animated, because they change so quickly? A video on a bus in your periphery? That's basically begging for an accident.

Re: Vikings Stadium
As long as it can be used for roller skating (aka Rollercome) I'll be happy.
And the Gopher stadium does get a fair amount of use outside of games, mostly because it was designed (or I assume it was designed) to host other types of events.

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
Does anyone else get the feeling this is some kind of crazy art project? The BRT or Lancestar's posting? But to compare that experience to the Twin Cities is pretty stupid. Honestly, I have never really traveled to Chicago and got the full experience of the transit system. I was really talkin...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
I'd love to discuss a future with fewer constraints, but I'm still going to assume the "constraint" of common sense. But I'm still going to call a spade a spade. If we want to make a direct comparison between shopping in Chicago and shopping at the Mall of America, I'm going to call it stu...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
People coming for a "Parisian" shopping experience aren't going to go to an outlet mall, and they're probably not going to take any transit, much less transit that isn't steel on steel (rail bias). I recently went to Chicago for some shopping, and took the El as well. But to compare that e...

Re: Red Line (Cedar BRT)
How many people honestly fly to MN just for the Mall, and on top of that miniscule number, how many do that but don't rent a car? You keep implanting your weird transit fetishism on the general population, and I think you need to take a step back and realize that 1) You have bizarre ideas about what...

Nobody is going to take BRT to an outlet mall in Eagen. I'm not sure why you're so convinced this is going to be a major trip generator.

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
You may be right about the perceived transfer penalty of commuters. Though I think a lot can be done with a bus depot to make it a better experience. Hell, if it was done right you could have streetcars dump into the Interchange and have all express buses leave from there, that would be a pretty goo...

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
It's not really much of a transfer penalty when you've got a streetcar coming every 2-3 minutes, and is the same express route coming every 5 minutes?

Re: The Interchange (At Target Field)
What about some super frequent higher capacity streetcars or something running up and down these streets, dumping into a bus terminal on one end or the other of downtown where people can catch their express buses.? Then in the winter people can be waiting in a heated bus depot rather than a shelter ...

Is there something wrong with the existing building? 30 years doesn't seem very old for what is surely a poured concrete building.

Demo happened today, I took this picture around 1 PM:

I'm guessing it'll all be down by the end of the day (or may be down already) and probably be hauled away tomorrow.

Re: Green Line (Central)
we already have a zone system, right? downtown zone. so if visitors can figure that one out, then they should be able to figure out if they're in zone 2 or 3, especially if they start their trip there. and you can always just ask the bus driver where the downtown zone ends... How do you enforce thi...
