Re: Images
That's better, but now it throws the layout all askew. Even if I maximize on my 1920 pixel wide monitor, I still have to scroll. Could it be set so the maximum width of an image is 900 or something, and anything bigger than that is shrunk down?

Re: Images
That sounds like it would work pretty well. I had to dig to find them, but here's a page with a handful of examples. Every picture on the first page except the first post has scrollbars. I'm using a chrome extension that expands thumbnails to their full size images, called Hover Zoom, so if it worke...

Re: Blue Line (Hiawatha)
I don't think wraps cover the windows on the train anymore. I could have sworn I heard a few years ago that rider surveys said they were awful (they are) so Metro Transit was going to stop using them (once their current contracts finished).

Re: Location of a 2nd International Airport?
Well yeah, I understand the question, but you may as well be asking where we'll put our 20th airport. I don't think we'll have any use for another airport. MSP isn't much of a hub anymore, and it's probably easier to fly bigger planes into MSP if we reach capacity than to build another airport. And ...

Re: Location of a 2nd International Airport?
Do we have much international traffic? Is Delta using MSP as an International hub? I know back when air travel was heavily regulated, Northwest had a lot of flights to Asia, did they continue that after deregulation? I know Detroit has a huge amount of international traffic from Asia, and now that's...

Re: University of Minnesota
Knowing first hard it is to get a raise at the U, I have a hard time believing that there's some systemic overpayment of employees. That's not to say that there aren't overpaid employees, but I really doubt it's as much of a problem as public education bashers make it out to be.

There's a lot of empty industrial buildings, I don't think we need to be worried about displacing thing yets.

Re: U of M tuition
Should the state give the U $1.1 billion dollars in order to freeze tuition for 2 years? Where oh where do I begin? I understand that tuition has gone up dramatically over the last decade or so, but, as I recall, going to college is a privilege not a right. Second of all; maybe the U should stop th...

Re: Images
If you've never used imgur I'd give it a try, it's designed to be as absolutly simple as possible. You can create an account, but you don't have to. If you have a picture on your computer you just drag it into the browser window and it uploads. There are browser extensions you can use to rehost a ph...

Is there any way to improve the way images are posted here? I'm pretty partial to the way something awful does it. No internal hosting, so everything gets hosted at imgur (which imgur is OK with). Putting something in img tags puts it on the page full screen, without the stupid scrollbars on the pic...

Re: Urban/Suburban Lifestyle
I heard that Ameriprise was planning on moving into the Northern Suburbs to be closer to the execs homes, and when the staff found they might be moving out of Downtown had a conniption, putting an end to that plan. Furthermore, just look at rents for office and residential and commercial in the city...

Re: Transit News and Happenings
This thread is clearly for discussing small happenings with mass transit. Bus stop changes, the U's nextbus system, etc etc. While I'm sure any discussion of roads vs transit is sure to devolve into a shitshow, but this is clearly not the place for it. And either you're illegitimately obtuse (slow t...

I move to delete the last 6 posts (7 including mine) because they are not "Transit News and Happenings" Nasa, if you want to gripe about transit vs. road funding, start a new thread. That topic could be (and has been) debated ad nauseam. Traffic is transit. And I will talk about it. OK, t...

Re: Amundson Hall Addition
Speaking of Civil, I've heard rumors they're going to give up on the bottom two floors and fill them with gravel. Something about the water table at the time of construction being at a century's record low. Shepherd (not Shepard) is old and crummy and could use some renovation but I don't think it w...

Re: Amundson Hall Addition
All that freed up space is already claimed. Geology and Earth sciences will move out of Pillsbury into Tate. English will move out of Lind into a renovated Pillsbury. The new Industrial and Systems Engineering department will quickly grow into Lind Hall. Computer Science and EE keep growing, and I'm...

Yep, if I'd turn my brain on for a second I would have found this before I asked: http://www1.umn.edu/twincities/maps/LCF/ It'll be nice to get some infill in this area, the Bruce printing across 4th street looks to be shutdown (found an auction for all their equipment from May) and otherwise lots o...

Re: Fountain Residential - (2635 Fourth Street Southeast)
Anyone know what's directly West of this building on Fourth street? What shows up in satellite view isn't in streetview, so it's pretty new. Is it University owned or something else?
I suppose I could answer my own question since I work in the MAST lab right next door.
