Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
And also, I've never taken a bus to Eden Prairie. That sounds like maybe the last thing I would ever want to do, it just sounds really long and painful and my heart goes out to those who do it on a daily basis. Nor is driving there on the top of my list for that matter. But a train on the other hand...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
Yes, but back when those plans where drafted Eden Prairie wasn't even on the map in terms of population and political influence. Should we expect everyone out there to drive to work so we can keep expanding the freeway network, or provide a solid form of transit that support what is already there? I...

Re: Southwest Corridor (Green Line Extension)
A little food for thought, looking at these old plans for a rapid transit system in the Twin Cities, this line has always existed in one shape or another. If you haven't seen this, check it out. Re: Dismantling Downtown Freeways
The city has up until recently been working to repair all the damage done to the local streets caused by the extra traffic from the bridge collapse. I don't buy the argument that traffic magically disappears, it gets diverted. Other roads deal with the added stress of the displaced traffic, and unle...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
About the Park/Portland street closures, here's my idea: Why not run a pilot project and temporarily shut the street down for a few months effective immediately to see what happens? My guess would be that everything would be just fine. Local governments really need to get better at experimentation ...

Re: Grand & Finn Apartments - (2124 Grand Avenue)
Yeah, leave it up to the developers to prove the neighborhood groups right! It would've worked real well if the building had been broken up into the three separate buildings that seem to have been blindly smashed together: the two story brown brick building, the multi colored three story building an...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I still can't get behind the closure of Park and Portland. If your headed Northbound on say Park Ave, unless they make significant improvements to Chicago, the only real course of action would be to turn on 7th street (that will already be more congested with traffic from the new westbound 94 ramp a...

Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
This seems like the appropriate thread to post this article about a hypothetical visualization of what a 1970's era subway system would've looked like in Minneapolis. As great as it would've been to have the subways, we may have dodged a bullet... Andy Sturdevant explains: http://www.minnpost.com/st...

Re: 35W North - MnPass and BRT
I thought the managed lanes would be in conjunction with the transit option, so maybe that's part of the cost? I know there's sense to be made somewhere in all this!

Re: 35W North - MnPass and BRT
yeah... maybe its in the finer details but how do suppose they came up with the crash data segments? Perhaps a county thing? I suppose there ARE more fatal accidents at Hiawatha and if there's any improvement over there that would be great, but I'm surprised they haven't opted to remove the cloverle...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Shutting these avenues down, esp near HCMC, give me break! I'm not a big fan of cars at all, but the HCMC argument is valid. One second can make a difference in an ambulance run. Bottom line, you can't shut down these streets. We don't need another Nicollet-Kmart. You said it, granted I was reachin...

A: Leaving both streets open to all, perhaps somewhat narrowed with gates and decorative pavement (like Chicago by the dome) B: One street being closed and the other being converted to a full width two way through downtown (also hopefully with decorative pavement and gates). How about a C: Build a ...

Re: Bottineau Corridor (Blue Line Extension)
As it appears to me, construction of regional fixed guided transitways in MN are only palatable if done along the pereiphery of our built up areas through well established right-of-ways, Hiawatha, SW, Bottineau the exception ofcourse being Central. But looking back, Central faced a lot of hard histo...

Re: Northern Lights Express
Taxi's are very reasonable in Duluth/Superior. We take ether the hotel shuttle or a cab to the Anchor bar, and although I can't recall how much that costs, it's not a lot.
