Re: Forum Maintenance & Technical Issues

This is kind of a silly thing that I'm sure nobody pays attention to, but are "likes" a thing that can easily be enabled? Sometimes there are posts that I appreciate, but don't feel like I have anything meaningful to add on to with my own post.

Re: Street, Road and Highway Projects

Those Lowry options are all pretty terrible. I know it's not a landmark, but it would be a bummer to lose the old Stasiu's building and completely give up the street face here.

Also, medians serve a purpose for pedestrians, but it feels like the plan is leaning too much on them. Streets with ...

Re: Federal Building & Post Office redevelopment speculation

I feel like there was lots of speculation when the St. Paul post office moved to the Eagan facility that it could eventually handle all operations for the entire metro area. Maybe the extra work load of e-commerce changed that math, but it definitely doesn't make sense to be pushing all of those ...

...And despite the nigh on impossible construction conditions (high financing rates, construction cost inflation, spotty demand) someone is actually moving forward with plans to build a 46 story office tower there.

It's a good thing nobody is considering a bunch of tariffs on building materials ...

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

There's a lot of excitement and spectacle in a headline number like "Building sells for 97% off" but I'd love if someone would dare to ask "was the building ever worth the original 100% price to anyone other than the sucker who bought it?"

The valuation of office buildings (or apartments, or ...

Just for posterity, it sold for three cents on the dollar. Or a 97% discount.

Re: Washington Square - 20, 100, 111 Washington Avenue S

What if... the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts used the building as a satellite location? They've pretty much built out they're existing site (or honestly, they've over built it, filling in several atriums that should have remained open).

Seattle split their primary and Asian collections; having ...

Huh. Has anything major happened in the last five years? Nah.

Re: University of Minnesota - News & General Topics

Isn't that actually the Glendale Townhomes section of Prospect Park? I could be misreading the map, but the East Bank campus area appears to be Tier 3 to me.

Good catch.

Still, Glendale is only 184 units of housing. Excluding the new Greystar building with over 600 units by itself, there are ...

Re: University of Minnesota - News & General Topics

So, I after looking at the Nicollet Mall redesign options, I had to look up what a TEP score was. To save you all some googling , it stands for Transportation Equity Priority and is a way to direct transportation investment based on the demographics of the population living in different areas ...

The four units/acre they're complaining about here sounds like nothing.

Re: Interstate 94

I think something like the Klyde Warren Park in Dallas is realistically kind of the best case scenario we could be hoping for, but notice that the adjacent land uses are very high density, high value in order to justify the outlay for new greenspace on the landbridge.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis Office Market

Without reading the article behind the paywall, I'm curious if this building's adjacency to the federal courthouse raises any concerns for security. There are recent examples in Chicago where perceived security issues have doomed viable historic structures.

I am not an expert, but I believe that tunnels also require ventilation for smoke evacuation in case of a fire. There are lots of other issues with life safety that pop up with tunnels. The aforementioned blast design, emergency egress paths, etc.

Just a reminder, freeway caps are really expensive! How much of our limited transportation dollars do we want to spend on these things?

Relevant to the Target Field plaza example, its extent is basically maxed out (the biggest it can be without being considered a tunnel and requiring blast design ...

Until that happens, the hospital will have to run a shuttle. Ideally, there would be a call button right at the station platform to summon the hospital shuttle. It's a short enough driving distance that it could just be on-demand, there seemingly wouldn't be any benefit to running a shuttle on a ...
