Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
The freight moving through Kenilworth or Hiawatha are closer to Kingfield than Dan Patch. Maybe even the freight dead end in Windom neighborhood?
At first I guessed it was coming from Kenilworth, but there really aren't very many at-grade crossings left along there, right? And I'm very doubtful ...

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
I live in Kingfield, and I'm surprised how many train horns I hear at night. They're not very loud, but they're often distinct. I assume it's somehow coming from Dan Patch?

Re: Freight Rail News and Happenings
My sense was always that these shortline railroads exist exactly because the Class 1 railroads weren't interested in them. Most of the are running on trackage which was formerly (or is currently) owned by the Class 1's.

Re: Xcel Energy Center
I think that's a great summary of the situation.
You hint at this, but the biggest problem with Target Center is that it's fundamentally the wrong shape, and that's unfixable. There are too few seats in the lower bowl, and too many in the upper bowl. The concourses are undersized, there aren't ...

Re: Xcel Energy Center
The big issue with the back of house at Target Center is that it's severely space constrained. Big touring shows like to load in with a lot of semis for equipment, and there's just nowhere to put them. They did update it and expand it somewhat during the renovation, but it's still limited by the ...

Re: Xcel Energy Center
I get it, billionaires are delicate creatures. But somehow LA, NY, and Chicago, which last I checked are much bigger metro areas than we are, have managed to have an NHL and NBA team share arenas for decades. In the case of LA, until recently they had TWO NBA teams and an NHL team.
Again, I get it ...

-- what is the compelling case to move the Wild?
I'm not advocating for the move, but...
The case is twofold.
1. From a fiscal sanity point of view, there's no reason why a metro area our size should be subsidizing two 20,000 seat arenas that are busy trying to cannibalize each other every ...

Re: Stadium Village
I'll stand to defend Dinnaken.
First, it's definitely above-average architecturally. Thoughtful massing, good materials, etc. Second, now that student apartments are everywhere, it's easy to forget that this project really was ground-breaking for the UofM campus. As far as I know, it was the first ...

I'm sure the Ramsey County Board members still support making transit improvements in the West 7th Corridor, but I don't understand what exactly they're trying to pull. Do they think the project is going to proceed with only MnDOT ...

Good ground level retail. The design is a little underwhelming after the flashy initial renderings for the project.

Looks like the sale of the First Avenue Amphitheater land is up for consideration at the Planning Commission .

Not to be that guy (I'm definitely that guy), but this project is in North, not Northeast, Minneapolis.
Also, it's called The Warren, which seems a bit on the nose for a dense apartment building.

Re: 2025-2026 Minnesota Legislature
We're not talking about just tossing in another couple of million dollars. The federal funding was anticipated to cover 80% of the costs. You can't just wave your hands and say make up the difference.
And even if you could, Minnesota is entitled to their share of federal funding. It came from ...

Re: Northern Lights Express
While I don't disagree with your overall point, we don't in fact have all of the money earmarked for it. The project is competing for the bulk of its funding through federal grants, and the odds of those coming through have diminished to almost nil thanks to the current administration.

Re: Blue Line Extension - Bottineau LRT
The only concern I see with this design is that seems to hide the station a little too well between the two road bridges. Maybe not the best design as far as public safety / "eyes on the platform", but really good on all other fronts. I suspect this design will stick.
Revisiting these images ...

The City Council is again considering historic designation for the Glendale housing project.
Another great opportunity for the council to demonstrate that they're all about the feels, rather than good governance.

Why can't they get their financing figured out? The same reason every other (non-subsidized) developer can't get their financing figured out. Interest rates have doubled, significantly increasing the financing costs for projects, while at the same time rent growth has stagnated. It's really just ...
