Re: Minneapolis & St. Paul Fantasies and Speculations
It could have been to discuss the Star Tribune blocks and Well Fargo's involvement in the development, along with trying to make ties with Silicon Valley companies possibly? San Francisco I would consider to be the financial capital of the West Coast so I think WF will probably always stay put there...

So that parking ramp would stay intact if Xcel backs out?
Seems like a bad week for developments in Minneapolis.

Re: Northstar
I think realistically though they would cut corners and do the Amtrak station remodel (new platforms and a park and ride) and then have local buses connect to it. That current park and ride probably would be a station for a university link and for a few SE St. Cloud residents. If did they have that ...

Re: Northstar
At least St. Cloud is a city with decently-sized bus transit system and is in a small urban area of about 100,000, whom have many ties to the Twin Cities such as relatives and whatnot. As hilarious at that original plan for a station in Rice was, if they did built it I would have used it for visitin...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
It doesn't seem too invasive, though I wouldn't like seeing that on a taller building like the Wells Fargo Center.
I think it would seem kinda weird if they started putting signs on tall buildings like what DT St. Paul does.

Re: Mozaic
So does that mean they will utilize more of the building for office use instead of parking since they can use the current ramp as well to limit the number of floors designated for parking in the second phase development?

Re: 4Marq - (400 Marquette Avenue)
I think it will look nice since the Nic on 5th and 4Marq look different from one another, unlike some of the residential high-rises you see in Toronto or Vancouver where there are a ton of clones of the same designs for high-rises. Hopefully a 200-250 ft tall structure goes across the street in that...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
I agree on that they shouldn't do it cheaply, but I still think it can be done if designed correctly if you are building luxury residential units. My only issue with this development (I actually don't mind it at all unlike people like nasa) is maybe they should have divided the building design up mo...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
Yeah I will admit the ones I have seen do seem quite tacky, as developers do always seem to design their developments kind of bland which in turn gives it that fake look. I just wish they would mimic the detail seen in old storefronts and apartments, it's definitely more work but in the end it just ...

Re: 222 & Whole Foods - (222 Hennepin Avenue)
They probably should have divided the structure walls into different heights and various colors of brick so it would have looked like a dense collection of different buildings vs a large luxury fortress.

Re: Opus Dinkytown Project - (14th Avenue SE & 5th Street SE
Also why do so many people think Al's was ever at stake? Was that Strib editorial that effective at spreading lies? Yeah I did keep hearing about Al's. I think it might be due to just to confusion since it is on the same block but the NIMBYs might be using that confusion to their advantage because ...

Re: The Penfield - (101 10th Street East)
I kept driving by this last week and while it's not tall it's nice to see more residential construction in downtown. Hopefully this along with the LRT should help DT St. Paul break out of it's only open during 9-5 on a weekday persona. All they need to do now is redevelop surface lots on Jackson and...

"It's Dinkytown, Not Megatown"
It should be called Parkytown if they really want to keep their precious surface lots.

Doesn't the inter-regional corridor (new TH 24 freeway), improvements/upgrades in Elk River, Ramsey, Anoka, etc count as improvements to US 10 and I-94 since those are bound to happen by 2038? Yeah maybe lanes won't expand, but even the recent resurfacing of TH 10 between St. Cloud and Anoka County ...

I just drove on University from Hamline to Rice on my way home this afternoon and the Green Line is looking nice, but will the catenary wires be fully installed anytime soon? Has the constant rain in the past few weeks affected that part of construction?

Re: Northstar
We should just build things on a smaller scale within close distances of basic necessities and places of employment, to promote walking, biking, rollerblading, segwaying (if you are a mall cop), etc. Even in places like Big Lake and Elk River. I wish they would condense suburban commercial districts...

Glad to hear that downtown density is increasing in cities outside of the Twin Cities. It's not the prettiest building, but it's better than seeing the new HQ being built somewhere like Hermantown or near the Miller Hill mall.

I think O'Hare has nonstop flights to India, I think in Delhi and maybe another city. Maybe they could use Frankfurt as a stopover. To make us a more efficent gateway I would probably have this: European Markets: London-Heathrow (Delta year-round, maybe British Airways (though probably not)) Paris-C...
